Product Description

Amazon.com

Most knife injuries occur because the user has a poor grip on the knife. Kershaw's Blur knife solves the problem with its unique anodized aluminum handle, which features advanced materials designed to provide a safe, secure grip every time--even under extreme conditions. In addition, the handle is CNC-machined to accept Trac-Tec inserts, giving your hand an even grippier surface. The Blur also sports the SpeedSafe ambidextrous assisted opening system. Invented by celebrated knife maker Ken Onion, the SpeedSafe system lets users smoothly and easily deploy the stone-washed, stainless-steel blade with either the left or right hand. This makes it ideal for sporting and work situations in which one-handed opening is easier and safer, such as when hunting, fishing, or working with your hands on the jobsite.

Finally, the Blur comes with a Kershaw pocket clip, which is meant to be clipped with the handle on the inside of your pocket. The clip is not to be worn on a belt, as this is an unsafe way to carry your knife.

The SpeedSafe assisted opening system lets you smoothly deploy the blade with 1 hand.
About the SpeedSafe System
The patented SpeedSafe knife-opening system helps users open the knife by applying manual pressure to the thumb stud or blade protrusion. The heart of the SpeedSafe system--which is built into many of Kershaw's best-selling knives--is its torsion bar, which keeps gravity from opening the knife. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its half-moon track and takes over, smoothly opening the blade and locking it into position, ready for use. Although they may look similar at first glance, SpeedSafe knives are not considered switchblades. Unlike a switchblade, SpeedSafe knives do not deploy with the push of a button in the handle or by gravity alone. Instead, the user must manually overcome the torsion bar's resistance, putting the knives outside the federal definition of a switchblade. However, it's the responsibility of the buyer to investigate and comply with the laws and regulations that apply in his or her specific area. Buyers should rest assured, however, that SpeedSafe knives are extremely safe, as they open only when the user manually deploys them, and lock securely into position when open so they don't close accidentally.

Knife Maker Ken Onion
A master of his trade, Ken Onion is one of the most sought-after custom knife makers in the industry. His custom knives can be found in the most prestigious private knife collections as well in as in the pockets of his dedicated customers. Ken's involvement in the knife trade dates back to his time in Palestine, West Virginia, where he was inspired at the age of 12 by Vernon Ott, a local blacksmith and maker of garden tools and knives. In the ensuing years, Ken joined the U.S. Marine Corps and worked in such fields as construction, heavy equipment repair, and hydraulics repair, always with an eye toward eventually designing the perfect knife. In November of 1991, Ken met Stan Fujisaki, a talented knife maker who agreed to teach him the tricks of the trade. After years of preparation--and some inspiration while working on a Harley cam for a friend--Ken created his first SpeedSafe knife. Today, Ken designs a custom selection of knives for Kershaw, many featuring the patented SpeedSafe torsion bar system for assisted opening. Ken is personally involved throughout the design and manufacturing process to ensure that each knife meets his high standards for performance and quality.

Solid Knife November 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
I had spent a couple weeks looking for a replacement for my kershaw whirlwind, which was a great knife and I had absolutely no complaints at all, but I eventually decided on the Blur. I liked the fact that the blur was available in S30V steel I had not owned one with this blade material yet but the majority of the reviews for this type of steel have been very promising. I don't think that you can find a better knife for the money. There is not any blade movement when locked, this is the main thing that makes me keep buying Kershaw knives, at least the assisted opening variety. Very sharp out of the box, very fast to open, grips well in your hand. Made in USA and backed by Kershaws lifetime warranty, how can you go wrong?

EDC BOSS July 28, 2011

This knife is a BEAST. Almost everything about this knife is perfect. This is not my first Kershaw product, and probably won't be my last. However, this could be the last EDC folder I'll ever need. Its thin (only about .5 inches) and the t6 aluminum handle is light, yet feels sturdy and reliable. The grippy trac-tec inserts give the knife a great feel in your hand, and the peace of mind knowing it won't slip from your grip. I opted to pay the extra cash to get this bad boy in s30v, because of it's edge retention. It's probably not necessary since I'm not really abusing the knife, but you never know when the higher steel quality might come in handy. The assisted opening action on this guy is second to none and downright addictive. One you pop, the fun don't stop. And for all you California buyers, this knife, or any of the other Ken Onion Speedsafe knives are not illegal. The opening mechanism is a thumb stud located on the blade, which disqualifies it from being an illegal switch blade. The stone wash finish on the blade is a nice extra, and the blade is razor sharp. I'm talking "don't touch me" sharp. With even the lightest amount of force, you can easily shave layers off of your fingernails (a trick a friend of mine who is a chef taught me to test the sharpness of cutlery). My only qualm with this blur, is the pocket clip. It looks kind of dinky, and its a tuck too tight. I wish I could replace it with the beastly wide clip on my Kershaw Clash. Although its just a beater knife, i must say the clip is amazing. Any who, the sheer awesomeness of this knife quickly makes me forget about the clip. This is a beautifully crafted tool, and I highly suggest you join the Blur Club, s30v or not. Plus it's backed by Kershaw's amazing customer service and limited lifetime warranty, which is the stuff of legends. I hope this review helped, and I hope you purchase this beast of a folder.

This is a well made USA knife. It has S30V knife steel, an aluminum handle with a rough finish grippy grip, & a very fast assisted opener. There is no wiggle or play anywhere when the blade is locked open, a liner lock & it has a limited lifetime guarantee! Even the thumb stud is slanted for when using the assisted blade opener.
A very highly recommended knife except for wearing a suit or where it is not legal due to the blade length.

Great Buy
This is the sharpest out of the box knife I have bought to date. The S30V is definitely worth the extra. This and the Zero Tolerance are my two favorite carries.

Love this knife. Very good edc.
This nice is very close to perfect for an edc. When I first got it I didn't like the griptape on the sides. It was very rough and was tearing up my pants. Read more
