This is a fantastic small knife, featuring both high utility and an efficient, pocket-friendly design. (Not to mention the cool factor provided by the one-handed opening mechanism.) The blade comes razor-sharp from the factory, and the ruggedly serrated lower half makes it extremely useful for tough chores to which I wouldn't generally subject a knife this elegant. I had considered other Kershaw Speed Safe knives, but chose the Scallion primarily due to the full anodized aluminum handle versus many similar knives with Trac-Tec surfaces which some reviewers indicated could quickly shred the inside of a pocket. (I now see the benefit of the Trac-Tec on larger knives, as the amazingly quick opening action can cause a smooth-surfaced knife to shift in your grip if you're not careful.) Note: the pocket clip on my knife appears to have been too tightly secured prior to shipment, causing resistance when opening. I removed the clip--which I had intended to do anyway--and it has snapped open perfectly and consistently innumerable times since. (Opening the knife repeatedly just to hear the Wolverine-like "snick" is almost irresistible.)

Man this knife is well-made. It was a typical Amazon impulse purchase. I don't really have a use for it, but it's always around. The women in the house always forget how to open it so they're afraid to mess with it, which is fine with me since that means it won't get used to open sticky packages, pry open paint cans, or any other inappropriate use.
This is a perfect gift for a guy. I guess there's women out there who would treasure a knife as nice as this, but that's a different universe from mine.

The opening mechanism on this knife is consistent with Kershaw's entire line with the Speed Safe feature. The mechanism operates very smoothly and its really handy to be able to deploy the knife with one hand. I highly recommend this and the entire series of Kershaw knives with Speed Safe.
