He couldn't install it either.

The Velcro straps that attach the footrest to the pedals and frame were installed improperly at the factory, making it impossible to secure the footrest tightly to the bike. This could be the reason why other reviewers had serious safety issues with the footrest, which caused the pedals to lock and the bike to stop short. It took me a while to figure this out, and I had to remove the straps and reverse them, which was actually pretty simple once I realized what the problem was. Now the footrest feels very tight and secure. Also, this product is made in China, not in Germany like the trike. This product works very well once you reverse the Velcro straps, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

We ordered this footrest along with the Brummi Kettrike. The quality of the cycle is fantastic and we expected the same from the footrest. However, the footrest does not stay in place which causes the wheels to "lock up" while we are pushing, which lurches the bike and my child forward. I e-mailed the folks at Kettler and they had no real suggestions as to how to resolve the problem. Unless this item works better on different Kettrikes, I would not spend the money for this item.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL -- we don't want this to happen to anyone else. This product is a great idea, but our poor son was using it and got hurt. Because this footrest is just above the pedals, if a child pushes down with one foot, the bike stops short. I noticed it has also happened to reviewers of the other Kettler footrest listed on Amazon. When this happened to our boy, he was wearing the waist belt, but his head still flew forward into the handle bars. That alone would have hurt him badly, but he also had the bell mounted to he handle bars, and the bell handle went right into his head just above his eye. It missed his eye by only an inch. He was badly hurt, but it would have been far worse if his eye had been poked out. Please don't let this happen to your precious child! We removed the footrest right away and threw it out.

We agree with Wendy - don't waste your money. The method used to attach the footrest to the Ketrike is a belt that goes around the main bar of the trike. After buckling the belt and tightening, it'll work until the child puts any amount of pressure on the footrest. The belt easily loosens and the footrest digs into the wheel/pedals, causing the trike to stop abruptly - which is a pain for both the child riding and the parent pushing.

We have had this attached to an Air Navigator for about six months now. Recently, our 15-mo old son has been able to exert enough pressue on the footrest to cause the trike to stop, which can happen quite abruptly. He's banged his head on the bell and handlebars twice in the last week. I am unsure what the issue is, but we are not letting him ride the trike further until we diagnose the problem. The last sudden stop left him with a bloody lip and teeth marks on the handlebar. I would be very cautious when using the footrest.

I was so excited when I found this foot rest but unforunately it won't work for my son's kidd-o trike due to it not having a free front wheel. In other words if you can't push the trike without the pedals having to move, this won't work.

This is a great addition to our Kettler Air Navigator. My 15 month old son loves his tricycle but he's too young to pedal it so this gives him a nice place to safely rest his feet. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it was much harder to put on than it needed to be. As an earlier reviewer said, it's much easier to install if you reverse the velcro before you start. Unfortunately it wasn't clear to me what this meant until I was struggling to attach backwards velcro to the underside of a tiny tricycle. I feel like it took me almost as long to put this footrest onto the bike as it did to assemble it! Now that that frustration is behind us, I absolutely love having this footrest on the bike. I would recommend this to everyone who has a Kettler bike for their 1-2 year old.

I was able to install this footrest on my Kettler Happy Air Navigator in literally less than a minute. Other reviews made me concerned about a difficult installation but I did not experience any problems. I did not have to reconfigure the straps in any way. The instructions aren't detailed so there might be some confusion about how to install the straps.

First, make sure the strap is not going through the little strap hoop. Position the footrest so the pedals fit in the grooves. Then feed the strap through the hoop and pull it back over itself so that the velcro sticks. Once completed, the yellow pedal should be visible through the little hoop.

The footrest has prevented my child from dragging her feet and ruining her shoes. She is very comfortable and looks like she is lounging in a recliner. I find the footrest to be a nice addition to the trike until my child starts to pedal on her own.

UPDATE March 2013: I have found this footrest to have an annoying habit of locking the wheels if my child pushes on the footrest in a certain way. It causes the entire trike to come to a sudden stop. This seems to happen on a regular basis and is very jarring both to the child rider and adult pusher. I've deducted a couple stars because of this issue.
