Kettler Digger on Wheels Dual Action Lever Digger

I have a 2 and 3.5 year old and they both love this toy- I'm ordering another one because they fight over it. We put it in the sandbox and it's easy for them to control and they have literally spent hours playing with it.

I have an almost 3-year old grandson who is totally into construction toys and the sandbox. He loves this digger and so does grandpa. I found a cheaper digger when searching online, but while the reviews said the child loved it, there were also comments about it being less than sturdy.

Assembly is from drawings only (little or no written instructions) so you should have someone somewhat mechanically handy to put it together. There are a number of plastic discs and rings that are important to not forget as they provide protection at various potential pinch points. I had to re-do some of these parts because in my hurry to put it together, I failed to notice all these parts in the drawing.

Being winter now, we are using it mostly indoors with blocks and beans and under a covered patio in a sand box, but will move it into the garden area as the weather improves. I bought this model because of Kettler's reputation for sturdy toys and I have not been disappointed. This one will last for years.

The "digging" action is fine. However, the "trike" style base is very unstable. If you want your 4 or 5 year old to tip over all the time in a big jumbled mess, then by all means buy this item.

Also, you would think the being on wheels would make this thing more portable, i.e. the kid could push it to another area to dig another hole. NO WAY. As mentioned above, it is way too unstable to push anyway, even if the kid is OFF the item. Don't even attempt to scoot the item around while actually sitting on it - see comment one above about tipping over.

Northern Tools has a digger that is less than half the price, with what appears to be a more solid base. The company ran out of the digger over Christmas, so I bought this overpriced Kettle piece of crap instead. Wish that I had not done so, but my son wanted a digger for Christmas.

This digger is a hit in our sandbox! Easy to put together, sturdy, and my (almost) 4 year old can pivot and dig efficiently. With so many diggers on the market, I think this is a good choice. We've played with some flimsy and difficult to operate diggers at friends' -- the Kettler is overall superior.

This toy is great. The kids are having a great time with it. The 4 year olds jumped right on and could work it right away. The 3 year old learned very qiuckly. It is their favorite sandbox toy!

My son (3 1/2 years) loves this digger. The picture on his face Christmas morning was priceless. It is of very high quality, and the paint is very durable. The only negative is that the instructions were in German. Even so, it was very easy to assemble. I highly recommend this digger for any child that loves tractors.

I have one happy grandson after sending him a Kettler Digger on Wheels! Not only does he enjoy it daily, he has tried to take it to bed with him and uses it as a chair when he watches TV. He's named it "Power" (he's 2.5) and his friends love to share it during play dates! The sturdy construction and its ease of moving around makes it the best buy I've made this year. My daughter-in-law thinks it was a great gift and I'm currently looking at other Kettler products for Christmas.
