Otherwise its a 5 star product. Kettler is a German company that I'm told makes the best tables on the market, and this is surely an impressive design. The heavy duty blue top is very attractive and has a durable finish, and the best feature of all is that this unit folds up to a compact 25" for storage and the dual caster system allows it to roll freely until you need to lock them in place with the provided pedal locks. You get a true bounce and the net system is very sturdy as well. Also has a built in cradle for storing your paddles.

Where Kettler falls down is with their assembly instructions....they are horrible. I was told to expect about a 2 hour assembly time with the help of another adult. 4-6-8 hours is more like it if you have some mechanical ability and don't have any problem decoding Kettler's cryptic "step by step" instruction. I was also told the assembly would arrive "80%" complete. hahahahahahaha gag whock choke hahahahahaha

This Top Star is actually a one man assembly until you get to the point where you need to mount the first side onto its sliding leg mounts (read instructions closely and "click" before mounting) and then you'll need help flipping the second side over from its crate to assemble the legs. Each side weighs close to 100lbs and they are very awkward to handle so make sure you have some beef on your team before attempting to put this thing together.

The marketing material says that "all tools are supplied" but thats not entirely true either. You will need a hammer (yes, a hammer), a 1/2" wrench and socket set, and a workable understanding of the metric system. The plastic corner braces that hold the shipping carton together are throw aways, they are not used in the assembly although they look as they might be.

If you enjoy playing Ping Pong or Table Tennis, whichever you call it, this is an excellent table! It will meet, if not exceed your expectations, which it should for the cost. It's list price is $1000, but I waited til I found it on Amazon for $750.

We've had it for one month, I have 2 young boys (7), and we have a ball playing it & they are getting better & better, so I know we will have many years probably decades of fun. I'm sure through their middle & high school years their friends & they will use it constantly. When I think of that & having the kids at our home & that many years, the cost is really not bad.

The construction of the table is superb!
I can see it lasting, easily for years! It took me about 3.5 hours to assemble it myself, but I did have a friend help me lift the two table pieces into place. There was no possible way to do that part alone. It took 3.5-4 hrs from unpacking it to checking that I had every piece needed to putting on the net. I purchased this one because I've seen other tables with what seemed to be cheap wheels break. These wheels seem to be excellent, but time will tell.

I've read that the table is difficult to assemble, I disagree...IT IS time consuming for sure, BUT if you don't want the frame to become loose, then you need to take your time & do it correctly! You get what you pay for & you get the type of assembly you want based on the time & effort you put into it! Make sure you have time to do it right & you will enjoy it! Don't assume you'll do it in under 3 hours!

Last thing & very very important!!!
I did not have a metric ratchet set, so I was using two adjustable wrenches to tighten everything, one of which was a locking wrench. It would have been so much easier to have a metric ratchet set...

We received a Kettler Topstar XL weatherproof table as a Christmas present about 4 or 5 years ago. Yes, the assembly was a bit daunting, but the quality is superb. It has functioned perfectly since we got it and all three of my kids enjoy table tennis. We fold it up and wheel it into our garage when we aren't using it. The plastic thingies that hold the net tight have dried out after 4 years of storing in a Texas garage with no A/C, but parts are available through the Kettler website. We have worn out our set of Panda paddles. I would highly recommend the quality, finish and engineering of this table.

I just got this table. The construction is very durable. It would be nice if it came with a more user-friendly instruction manual and some extra parts but we got it done in about 2 hours with two people working on it.

I see it here on Amazon for $750 but I was able to use a 30% off coupon at Sports Authority and got this Kettler XL table for $550. So its worth looking around for a deal since they should be out there.

Good Luck

I have been looking for a table for the back yard for quite some time. I finally narrowed it down to this one based on reviews and product searches. First, I went with amazon because shipping was free with prime. I was a little nervous about the delivery but kept in touch with the shipping company and delivered as promised. The box was only about 6 inches thick and obviously the size of one half the table. Initially, the construction looked intimidating as I looked throught the instructions. Contrary to what some others have written, the instructions are pretty well laid out and easy to follow once you read through it once. All is required is a little bit of common sense and elbow grease to lift the table halves. Myself and my father-in-law had it up in 90 minutes. You do need 2 people to put this together as the lifting has to be precise and balanced. The build quality is top notch. Yes, the bounce is not 100% professional quality but unless you are a pro, I wouldn't worry about it. I have played competitive table tennis and this table does just fine. My kids are already enjoying the heck out of this, and my wife still thinks she can beat me. Bottom line: Great quality table, fairly simple construction, and as long as you stay in touch with the shipping company, you won't have any problems. I recommend highly.
