We bought this for our son for Christmas when he was 6. He wanted one of those electric Jeep's. One major reason we decided to NOT go with the Jeep was that at the time we lived upstairs and had no where to keep it and no desire to haul it up and down stairs every day. The next best reason was that we knew he would outgrow it likely within a year. When we saw the Kettcars they looked so cool, light and affordable! Christmas morning he saw it and cared little about anything else! To this day, it is his favorite outside toy! He is 8 now and nearly ready for the next size up, so we will probably get him one this Christmas, which he really wants, especially since the larger models have actual rubber tires, and he likes to pretend he is a mechanic. I would highly recommend this! Another thing...when we go to the park, he is the center of attention, which makes him feel good and I am happy to say that he is wonderful about sharing turns with other kids.

Our 3.5 year old son loves it. He was able to learn how to operate it within one day and likes riding it. There is no risk of it tipping over (as we had seen with his trike) and he enjoys the control he has riding the vehicle. We also love the fact that he has to use the pedals to ride it which gives him a chance to utilize the endless amount of energy he seems to have.

Would definately recommend it to another child. One point weakness though:
The front steering is not protected - he hig a concrete step causing the steering bar to pop out - no problem - it could be pushed back and he could continue to ride it without problems.

My 4 year old finally got his Kettcar and loves it! He rides it all the time and loves to let his friends take rides. I question the age listed since the seat settings are not that different and he is not that tall (42 inches). I would say figure till about 7 or 8 max. Only thing I would have liked to see them do is make the seat move back and forth easier. You have to take it apart to adjust it and I for one am not willing to do this for his friends. Luckily there is no older sibling to have to do this for.

The other positive reviews convinced me to buy this Super Monaco XL Kettcar and I agree that it's a solid, fun toy.
First of all, let me say that our garage is packed with ride-on toys. Electric Power Wheels Kawasaki dirtbike, Ninja 4 wheeler, plastic pedal tractors, various 3 wheel pedal trikes. These toys are fine but built with a lot of plastic and wheels that wear out fast. This Kettcar is mostly solid metal with durable solid wheels. Since a big issue regarding purchase is to determine whether this toy is big or small enough for your child let me try to give details: My son is about 43inches tall and received this a few days ago for his 5th birthday. It is easy for him to reach pedals w/seat at closet setting. The seat setting goes back another 6 inches or so as he grows. He's able to pedal across grass and even up inclines and go up small curbs. Peddling full speed, the 5 yr old neighbor boy is not able to catch him on foot so it goes pretty fast. My son's able to pedal thru grass although it takes a bit more pedal power to go through the thick stuff. If your child's a bit shorter than 43 inches tall it may be difficult to power thru thick grass but goes easily on hard surface. My estimate that a child less than 40 inches tall probably would not be able to reach pedals. I'm sure a teeneager could ride this toy with seat pushed back to farthest setting. My son especially likes the "gear shifter". He's able to disengage the pedals with this and it works well. The brake seems solid. When he pulls back hard on brake it locks up both back tires. The wheels are built solid and are not made of the cheap slippery plastic such as you see on front tire of a "big wheel" type trike. I put this together in about 15 minutes with about 8 bolts and a couple screws -easy. I would highly recommend this toy as I'm convinced this will outlast any other ride-on toy in my garage. It's frame and tires are solid and it's nice to have such a solid basic toy that will give me a break from the constant maintenance the electric ride-ons require.

My son received this as a gift for his 3rd birthday - one year ago. It has been one of his favorite things! It's extremely durable and has withstood his toughest drives. We toyed with the idea of a bike at the time, but this offered the same benefits plus one more - it was safer. He can't fall off it! What's more, I think he'll get much more use out of it. The older kids in the neighborhood all love to take it for a spin. Another great feature was the ability to "take it out of gear" so he could be pushed without worrying about his feet. I can't say enough good about this product!!!

My son (in tears) and his dad are taking this great looking car apart to pack it back up to ship it back. We currently have the smaller Kettcar so my son was SOOOO excited to find this "larger" one, listed as for 8-12yr. olds. The box arrived today and listed right on the box, ages 4-9. We called Amazon before putting it together to check on this age difference and were assured that the online listing was correct and Kettler must use the same box for all of their cars. So, after an hr. of assembly, it is clearly the same size as the small one we were replacing. I've called to complain again and been assured that the listing would be changed... if not, the Kettler Super Monaco XL is for ages 4-9, not 8-12 as stated currently. I will say, if your child is young, it looks great and my son loves the one he already has. Now, hopefully, the return will go smoothly and my son's long saved money will be quickly refunded. (the second phone rep. was very friendly and apologetic, there just wasn't much he could do to help)

My son just got this 2 days ago. I had to put it together before he could use it. It was not difficult at all. In no time, my son was riding his new vehicle. He thought that it was great. He is average to a bit small for his age (4 1/2 years old), but had no problem reaching the pedals. He loves the fact that he can drive it like his daddy drive's his car. My son is the only one in his neighborhood with a car like this and likes to show it off whenever he can. The car looks as if it is quite duable, and should last for many years to come.

We bought this for our then 4 year old son 2 years ago for Christmas. He has loved every minute of it since then. He has an easy time peddling, steering, and stopping. We have adjusted the seat to accomodate his growth 2 times and have never had any complaints! I would highly reccomemend this toy in addition to ride-on toys you might already own. GREAT BOREDOM BUSTER!

My 4 year old loves this Kettcar! We bought it used and it's been more fun then any toy he has ever had. It took very little time for him to drive it with confidence. My three year old can do it too, but can't quite reach the peddles very well. We are actually thinking of buying him one soon because our 4 year old is going to be driving his for a long time. The adjustable seat grows with the child. I would definetly recommmend this one over the smaller red one, which we have used too.

We bought this last Christmas for our then 5 year old son as alternative to all the battery operated cars out there. He loved it then and still does. It's not like the heavy metal cars we could barely petal as kids. It is lightweight enough that he can race up and down our tenth of a mile long driveway. It brakes well and never seems in danger of tipping despite his best attempts. Usually I can find him riding on this instead of his bike. And it is still such a favorite that it is difficult to share it with his sister. I would highly recommend this toy for any girl or boy. If they made it in pink or purple I am sure it would be on our daughter's Christmas list this year.
