Does what it should, pain to clean up,

This does exactly what it advertises - lets you use your own coffee rather than a K-cup. For those that complained about leaks, it's all in how you put it together. You have to make sure there are no coffee grounds around the lip of the container before you put the lid on. If you have coffee grounds between the filter and the lip or between the filter and the lid, it will not seal properly and will leak. This leads to:
A. A mess B. Gross, weak coffee C. Grounds in the coffee As long as you put it together properly and have the top free and clear of grounds there should be no problem. Avoid overfilling. The one thing that I don't like is the cleanup hassle. You have to bang the filter cup in the trash can to try an knock out as many grounds as possible (coffee grounds are bad to put down the drain). Then rinse the thing. Now that your fingers are wet, you'll likely get new grounds stuck to them when you try to fill the thing for the next cup. It still beats paying the price for K-cups though.

leaking caused by overfilling,

I've used My K cup for a year because, fresh ground local roasted beans tastes batter than something than coffee sitting on the shelf.
I know that when I overfill the mesh cup, it will leak. I also use a dedicated toothbrush for cleaning the mesh cup and plastic lid.

For those Keurig users concerned about waste while using pods, or for those who still want to use their own coffee grounds, this is perfect.

We use this when we don't want to use a k-cup.,

We have several blends and beans we enjoy, that we can't buy in a k-cup. We tried refilling used k-cups and found it did not work well for us. This assembly works fine, but it only comes with one filter basket. The Medelco RK202 filters are cheaper than the Keurig replacement filter basket and we like them better. They are slightly deeper and hold a little more coffee so we can make a larger cup.

good to have in case you run out of K cups. I think we should have gotten one of these when we purchased our coffee maker but was not there. Glad to find it at Amazon.

Quite possibly the worst idea Keurig ever had,
This review is from: Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter 5048
We bought this around a year or so ago and we've used it quite a few times. That said, it has been quite a chore. K-cups are supposed to be quick and clean, but this thing is horrible. Other reviewers say it leaks, but it doesn't. The hole in the top is close to 1/4" wide and the water doesn't percolate fast enough and after a few seconds water begins to overflow through the fill hole. Unlike normal k-cups, the water needle doesn't puncture the top to create a seal. If you've seen how small the needle is on the Keurig machine, you'll understand why a 1/4" hole in the top of this thing is comparatively big.So it isn't leaking, it is overflowing. When it overflows, often, coffee grounds come with it. This runs down the side of the brewing chamber and drips all around and in the cup. Often, this means coffee grounds end up in the coffee you are brewing as well. This can be minimized by only filling the strainer up about 1/3 of the way. The best part is at the end when the Keurig machine "spits" the last bit of water and air, it blows even more grounds out of the "my k-cup". This will not produce a strong cup of coffee, you're better off with a french press.

Terrible product, Cracks in a few weeks,

Good idea but poorly executed. I've bought three of these, hoping each time for an improvement, but they have all broken after a few weeks of normal use. The plastic breaks down from the heat of the coffee maker and begins to crack and chip. The cap becomes loose and may fail to seal. This a widely reported flaw in the product and can be corroborated by searching online. The manufacturer has not responded by improving the product even though they are aware of the problem and will send you a replacement if you write them. Unfortunately, the replacement will also fail in a few weeks. Its expensive for a poorly engineered product and undermines the environmental aims of reusable filters. Recently, a better alternative (Solofill) is being sold through Amazon and I can vouch that the quality is much better than the My K-cup. Keurig is generally a fine company but My K-cup is a blemish on their reputation. Buyers beware.

The Keurig My K-Cup reusable coffee filter does just what it says it will--uses your own blend of coffee to brew in the Keurig coffee maker. However it comes up short in the area of convenience. First the regular k-cup holder needs to be removed to insert the filled reusable filter. After brewing it needs to cool so the filter can be handled, before it can be emptied and cleaned. After emptying the filter comes the difficult part, thouroughly cleaning the filter. This is not an easy task and because the mesh is fine it takes a while to clean out all the old gounds and oily cofee residue. I bought the Keurig for convenience and this takes all the convenience out of using the Keurig!

Pain to clean, doesn't work with loose tea,

I received one with my brewer that I bought at Costco as part of the package deal, and am so glad I didn't waste the money on it.
Whilte I know they aren't environmentally friendly, I prefer the packaged K-Cups, mainly so I can have a bunch of different kinds of coffee in my house. If I was going to drink just one flavor of coffee, I would just use my 2-cup Mr. Coffee pot. I have an iced tea maker I use in the summer and I usually brew loose tea. I decided to give the K-cup a shot for iced tea. It makes very weak iced tea. And I like herbal teas and it is a real pain to clean out. Cleaning it out with a spoon doesn't work and I am forced to run water through it in the skin, using a paper towel to catch the lose grinds so they don't go in the sink. It is easier to just brew an iced tea pot of iced tea and get a half gallon of tea than it is to brew one cup of iced tea with this. While using coffee in it did brew a strong enough cup, it was equally as big of a pain to clean. By the time you waste the water and paper towel to clean it, a regular K-cup isn't hurting the enivornment any more. If someone wants to brew coffee and avoid a K-cup, I recomend buying a 4-cup mr. coffee maker and brewing 2 cups with it. It makes enough for a mug or a travel mug, and is a lot easier and takes less time when you factor in the cleaning time of the my k-cup.

for a proprietary keurig product it does not fit well at all!,

DO NOT BUY THIS! We received this as a Christmas gift. The person who purchased it reported that theirs leaks from time to time. It works fine for us, BUT you have to force the top door down to create the seal and then keep pressure on it during brewing. I often hear a plastic popping sound when using it, but couldn't find anything broken when I checked. The lid could easily be made to fit the coffee maker much better as it does not have the top two tabs or cutouts needed for the door to operate more smoothly. A considerably higher amount of very fine grounds makes it into your cup compared to none with a k-cup. Some may like the extra kick, but I get heartburn from stronger coffee with grinds in it.
