5.0 out of 5 stars Still the Best Ibiza Soundtrack ever made (IMHO), December 10, 2010

This review is from: Kevin & Perry Go Large (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
I had a discussion about Soundtracks recently with a record company owner. He essentially said that "Soundtracks are worthless; the only decent/popular one was South Pacific".
Though this may be true commercially, soundtracks such as this one bring a lot to the table & have the added bonus of enhancing the film.

Before going through the tracks, it is worth pointing out a feature of both CD's. At the end of the vast majority of tracks there are snippets of Dialogue (e.g. the discussion about "Balearic House or Commercial House" between Eye-Ball Paul & Kevin) which should, by rights, be annoying but owing to the excellent dialogue on the film they enhance the album & your perception of the film in equal measure.

***

Starting off with the main song from the film Big Girl ("All I wanna do is do it"), the first CD rumbles through a selection of distinctive songs that are recognizable from scenes in the film (e.g. track 2- from the scene when K&P are being humiliated for being Virgins), but are also good in their own right (e.g. Track 5 - Love Island (the Remix) by Fatboy Slim).

The tracks that really stood out from CD1 were
Straight To Hell by the Clash (Track 6),
the remixed version of Mystery Land (track 9),
Chicago by Groove Armada (ending with Paul Whitehouse's 'Mirror' speech to the girls)
& tracks 19-21 (including the main song from the club, the 'Eyeball Paul' song & the track off the end of the film).

CD2 is more of a mixed bag, but there are still some excellent late 90's tracks, such as:
Track 3 Get Get Down by Paul Johnson (a classic in its day),
7: 'Dreaming' by Ruff Driverz,
9: 'I Feel Love' by CRW (again a classic),
14: 'Sunshine' by Yomanda (which took me right back to days in Ibiza).
& track 21: a remix of 'Big Girl'.

***

Sadly one track that was omitted from the release was the remix of 'Big Girl'/ All I wanna do is do it that Kevin & Perry made in the film (after they have money). As I'm a big fan of 'Mystery Land' by Y-traxx (which this lost remix is based on), I was dying to get the version that had Kevin & Perry's lyrics, but sadly it's not on here. More's the pity.

Putting this missing track aside, the rest of the album is rather good & ranks up there with Shaun Of The Dead & Human Traffic as being both definitive of their time & a good capsule of the excellent club music around at the time.

Still, here's hoping one day they re-release it with just one more track on it...

I think this CD was okay, I do have to say it was beter then I thought it would be. I think you should BUY this CD and if you don't like it, it can go on the shelf with all your other unsed CDs.
