Informative and successful tactics used in the art of bass fishing. Kevin VanDam covers it all from tackle to technique, bad weather to muddy water. He also covers the mental aspect of the sport. Whether your a budding angler or seasoned professional, this book contains information that will broaden your knowledge of bass fishing. Kevin puts you in the boat with him, teaching you his tried and true tactics that have made him a great success on the tournament trail. Down to earth information which can be easily comprehended and utilized to the readers greatest advantage. Although the information he puts forth has won him his share of awards, he doesn't force feed it. His proven strategies are there for the taking and he leaves it up to the reader to find out what works best for them. This book shows that his youthful excuberance goes beyond the lake and the largemouth, it can also be found in his writing!

This book sheds light on the real life of a professional bass angler. Kevin Vandam lets you into his world for a brief moment. He talks about mental strategies for changing conditions, and various confidence related issues. The book is very well written and informative. The ideas are a mixture of old school practices, and new scientific based therories. Hey, if you don't read it the next guy probably will!

I have read a lot of bass books and this one is top-notch. Kevin explains matters in a clear and concise fashion and I benefited greatly from his tips & techniques - a must read.

A book for even non-experienced fisher persons; it provides both interesting well-weathered opinions, as well as detailed and basic information /insight, that despite my decades of seasoned on-the-job-fishing, was able to gleem things new: After browsing pages for only 15-20 minutes, the next day's fishing trip employed new tactics that instantly led to more bass! WoW. Guess goes to show it's true, we can always learn more.

This book has a lot of good info. However, It has very few illustrations or photographs and the ones it does have are low quality. I don't think Kevin is giving any secrets away in this book. There is a lot of contradictory information. The end message is to try everything and do whatever works.

This is one of those just-get-it books. You may wonder about the price, the date, the author (okay, "everyone" knows KVD), etc. I was glad I got it and now it's staying on my shelf.

There's lots of good advice about all aspects of bass fishing: gear, habitat, seasonal, location (including very short chapter on shore fishing which is encouraging), boat traffic, fishing pressure/activity, etc.

It's easy reading with a comforting Midwestern style. It's hard to believe this was written in KVD's early career. It gives credence to why he topped the ranks so quickly. If you want to become a better student of bass fishing, and get an idea of why KVD is one, read this book.

Kevin vandam does an excellent job of sharing information in this book. he breaks down everything - from bait selection to color and size selection to weather and water conditions. a definate must read for the serious tournament fisherman to the beginner with his first rod and reel.

Another excellent book by Kevin Van Dam. There is a lot of information that you can put to use on the water immediately. A lot of the information is pretty basic for experienced anglers. But, even then, he manages to put new twist on some old ideas.

I have been reading and studying bass fishing for over 40 years. I have enjoyed reading this book tremendously. It is thought provoking as some of the concepts and beliefs Kevin shares have crossed my mind over the years and some of his explanations of why something has worked for me was actually simple to understand if I only used my own deductions as he explains quite clearly in the book. It's kind of like, "oh heck I thought of that before". When reading the book, it is quite clear why Kevin is the Tiger Woods of Bass Fishing. While he uses information one can find in other fishing literature, Kevin thinks for himself and has the ability to put together the puzzle pieces for himself without allowing old published information to formulate his plan to catch fish. He is so darn honest about sharing his information and most importantly he explains why he thinks that way and how he thinks his way through the challenges of changing fish moods, behavior, environment, geography etc. I wish I could have read this book 40 years ago. My brother has fished major bass tournaments and won a national tournament and has shared what he knows with my family and with friends and fans but he has not read Kevins book so I have a new copy headed his way for his enjoyment. I know he will pick up a few things or several things that will help his fishing.
Thanks to Kevin for unselfishly sharing this book with us die hard and novice fisherman. Kevin is a superstar, hall of famer and I wish for him continued success and I absolutely am looking forward to seeing him each week on TV and I hope he publishes more books in the future. Thank you Kevin Van Dam. Your the man!!!!
