Awesome, Country Rock Debut,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kevin Welch (Audio CD)
Arriving on Nashville's post-new-Traditionalist scene in the late 1980s, Oklahoman Kevin Welch wasted no time in carving out his own path. Worth whatever it costs to get hold of, this personal, stunning debut boasts infectious melodies, Mike Henderson's powerful guitar playing, and Harry Stinson's booming drums. The multi-layered harmonies create a hybrid of rocking country which poetically touches on heartland heartbreak ("Prayin' For Rain,") escapism ("True Love Never Dies" and "The Mother Road") and true love ("Till I See You Again.") All of this and most of what's left just flat out rocks. 3 of these tunes charted, and his intimate "Letter to Dustin" (written to his son) grabs hold like a vice. Country radio of 1991 embraced this masterpiece, but Welch's followup efforts were more folk-oriented and received little airplay. While predating the folk/country hybrid movement by at least a decade, he is only now beginning to enjoy a new audience of younger fans.

Kevin Welsh is an unknown treasure of a songwirter and performer. He has 4 CD released and each one is excellent, with Under My Wheels being my first and favorite of the 4. Give a listen, you will not be disapointed.

This self titled CD (Kevin Welch) is one of my favorite CD's I have ever bought. I play it quite often. Kevin is one of the best singer songwriters around. I have listened to and bought his other cd's ever since I first heard his song "Til I See You Again" back in 1990. I first purchased this album on cassette and also own the cd. Because I liked this cd so much, I have purchased pretty much everything Kevin has put out. He truly paints a picture with his words. Not only does he write his own songs, he has written for many other artists. Not since Keith Whitley have I liked an artist so much.Kevin Welch

I first heard Kevin Welch in the early 90s when his song, "Till I See You Again," was played much too briefly on radio stations. I was hooked instantly. I can't believe I was fortunate enough to find the album again, this time on CD! I even went so far as to Google his name and purchase the MP3 version of "Till I See You Again!" Another customer review said it best, "Shame on Nashville for not pushing his music," and I couldn't agree more. Don't miss out!

Shame on Nashville for not pushing this guy's work. Kevin Welch is one of the best, most talented songwriter's in Nashville. An excellent, heartfelt cd. Great songs, great voice, great music.

I originally had this title on cassette many years ago, let's just say I wore it out! Obtaining it again on CD will once again let me listen to the rich storytelling style and original music that made me fall in love with Kevin Welch's craft. My favorite track is "Mother Road" telling the story of old Route 66. You will not be sorry that you bought this title!
