Bobby Who?,
By Tom (Palatine, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Key One Up (Audio CD)
I bought this CD largely because I buy anything Ray Bryant. This particular rule-of-thumb has served me well. In this case it introduced me to Bobby Henderson, who can be best described as sounding like Ray Bryant's soulful kid brother.Bobby Henderson, who is responsible for the first six cuts on this disc, has a wonderfully balanced sound; never too joyful, always slightly meloncholy. Henderson's "Jitterbug Waltz" plays like a bashful little girl, unaware of her beauty, sneaking a smile and recoiling. All the Henderson stuff plays like this, unassuming, elegant, polished. To further explore the sadly limited world of recorded Henderson, checkout his "Handful of Keys" available on Amazon.com. The Ray Bryant on this disc is typically fabulous, with a similarly meloncholy feel. This cut of "Little Susie" is especially nice.
