Review
earBuzz Review: Tony Gauff has assembled a 12-track record of smooth R&B that shows influences that range from Michael Jackson, the Philly Stylistics sounds, and Motown in the 2006 CD, "The Key". The title track is a wall of complete R&B sound - made more impressive by the simple fact that Tony has performed and recorded all the parts. Track 2, "Don't Break My Heart", we hear the vocal range Gauff assembles in the harmony lines of the chorus. He sings, "I love you. .so don't break my heart" with passion. The album is also spiritual as Gauff includes tributes to his Lord with tracks like "Without Faith", "Look Toward the Light", and "With God all Things are Possible". In "Greater Love", another chorus goes by with memorable hook and textured smooth backing vocals. Track 6, "Perfect Friend", reminds us of 80's and 90's Boys to Men and similar ballads. Hooky. .with at least four or five good looking dancing singing youths. .yet, Tony's on his own in this. The final original track is "You're Gonna Make It" - a fitting tribute to the self-help encouragement that all indie artists need - whether he's writing about a friend who needs to make it in life or himself who wants to 'make it' in music. Solid writing and performances. --earBuzz
