Review

d Robinson "Author of
Leap of Faith: Quit Your Job and Live on a Boat
This review is from: Key West Camouflage - Hide In Plain Sight (Kindle Edition
In his second book the author takes Wahl out of Key West and sends him rambling across the globe. You never know what's coming next. A real page turner.

From the Author

I guess I can only blame myself. If I had killed everyone off in the first book, I wouldn't have been so compelled to bring them back for a sequel.    Treasure Key was a compilation of short stories, some written a decade ago, reformatted and rewritten to create a story line.  A lot of Treasure Key is quasi-autobiographical.  I pulled the first book out of my head and from my heart.  Key West Camouflage, I pulled out of the blue sky (or my ass).  It's much different, a little more action, a little more sex, a lot more mystery.  I was still able to pull from some past experiences, including my many trips to Baja California as part of several race teams in events like the Baja 1000.  The character Trip O'Donnell, whom you will meet shortly, is a combination of several people that I knew during my racing days, all rich casino owners with expensive hobbies.  Suffice to say that the racing description, locations and cubic money spent on that crazy hobby are accurate.
My trip to England and mainland Europe reflect real places and near-real people. I had to make the underwater sequence technically accurate to keep my real son Matt (portrayed as Brodie) from busting me if I was incorrect about how to do a deep water technical dive.
The definition of fiction is that you are writing - and reading something that could happen.  I guess these books fit that definition.
Our hero is a busy boy this time.
Special thanks to Lisa Owens, the editor that fixed all my lousy grammar, and also to Corryn Young, who designed a killer book cover.

I hope you enjoy.
Wayne Gales

More About the Author

Renaissance Man. Local Marketing Director multi-tasks another hobby into a profession.

Deerfield Beach Florida, August 1, 2010

To look at Wayne Gales'author of "Treasure Key" list of accomplishments, you would either think he has a great imagination, or has really packed a lot into his life. Ex motorcycle and car racer, gourmet chef, world traveler (24 countries and all 50 states), airline employee, tour operator, rock & roll and country musician, hotel Sales and Marketing Director, and most lately, published author.

"My late father said 'write what you know about' I did lots of articles and stories about my racing, mostly off road, Baja 1000 and things like that" Says Gales. "When I moved to the Florida Keys in 1997 I started doing articles for the Key West Citizen. They were mostly local light humor. I always had this novel rattling around in my head. When my wife Tina started working nights in December of this year, I sat down at the keyboard and cranked most of this thing out in 89 Days. I guess I made a bucket list a long time ago and have done a good job checking it off"

While "Treasure Key" is fictional novel about a single father in Key West, Gales dug deep into his own persona to write the book. Living in Key West as Director of Sales and Marketing at Ocean Key Resort off and on for several years, he has two teenage children and lived in a houseboat like his fictional main character in the novel, Russell Bricklin Wahl. His heritage goes back in the Keys over ten generations, and the time spent pouring over microfilm in the Key West library presented him with a wealth of historical information that also contributed to the book.

When not writing, fishing, playing golf or sitting in with a local country or rock & roll band, what does Gales do with his time? His "real" job is Director of Sales and Marketing at the Crowne Plaza Hollywood Beach

I have always been a big fan of Key West, Treasure, Pirate Lore, Diving, and Action. This book had it all. I would recommend reading the first book by Mr. Gales prior to Key West Camouflage but it is not an absolute must. I would recommend this as a fun, root for the main character, get sand between your toes and chase after treasure while trying to escape from others trying to steal it from you. A really faced paced fun read. Well worth the time and effort. Great Summer book especially if you love the beach and the Keys.

I was excited to read this book since we visit KW every year & I know the places her talks about. After a few pages Bric ends up in Vegas & the author spends way too much time talking about Baja racing - which has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the book. That being said, I muddled through that part & skimmed it hoping the KW story would pick back up. It did & what a story it was. Fast moving & brutal. The author does tend to ramble a bit & there are a slew of typos & errors in the Kindle edition. He also introduces characters that just stop being in the story. Still a fun read with a surprising end. BTW, I read this book before I read the 1st in the series.

Wayne Gales does a great job of following up his first book.
The characters grow and mature, while the main character continues to "Live his life like song."
The pace keeps you moving, without cutting corners to get where he wants to get us.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has traveled to the Keys, or Baja, or anyone who likes a little adventure.
Can't wait for the next book.

I read both Treasure Key and Key West Camouflage and enjoyed both. In addition to the story line which kept me turning pages, I also liked the many Key West references as well as the way the author connected historical events into the story.

The ending of Key West Camouflage leaves open the possibility of another book(s). Bring back Bric Wahl, we know he's not gone!

This fast paced, thriller suspense is a sequel to Treasure Key. Brig Whal lived for adventure, and it never fails to find him. Brig visits with his old friend, Trip O'Donnell in Las Vegas where he receives VIP treatment. He is treated to RFB (room, food and beverages of choice) and JAFI (just ask for it). Seemingly, Florida money just isn't accepted in Vegas and Trip picks up all the tabs. Later, he is treated to the ride of his life, riding as co-driver in the Baja 1000 off road race. As events spin out of control, Brig saves his friend's again by pulling him from a burning truck.

The concept of a camouflage clothing franchise in Key West was a brainstorm of Karen's. "Key West Camouflage" sparked the business acumen of Trip who offers to open franchises in all his Indian casinos located across five states. Not hearing from Karen has Bric worried. Then he discovers that all the money has been removed from his checking account. Julie doesn't pull any punches. She delivers horrendous news about Karen. Bric' s steel reserve sets him on a direct course to collide with thieves and murderers. Stealing his newly found gold is one thing, but cold blooded murder drives knives deeply into his heart.

Follow along as Bric faces Greek mobsters, a near fatal dive in England, and a dangerous train ride across Europe. This book is fast paced, no laggards here. The Baja 1000 race, a perfect example, was nerve stirring. Wayne Gales has a new book, Key West Normal, that will be released later this year. Watch for it!

The story follows the previous book but the author fills in the story if you didn't read it. The details of traveling in Europe and deep diving are full of facts and great details. Great twists and turns with the main character fair and giving second chances more than I would. If you loved his book this different locations with same flair maybe even better written.
