Pleased,

I was in total misery using a regular mouse less than an hour a day. I have terrible right wrist problems from work injuries, both to the wrist and the neck. The neck also cause some problems on the left.
I badly needed an ergonomic mouse, but I thought why just get an ergonomic mouse for the right hand? Why not just completely switch hands for mouse use? In my internet searches I ran across these Evoluent mouses, and the whole idea made so much sense to me. I ordered a left hand one, and it did take awhile to catch on to it really good, but I am right handed, so not only was I trying to work with my clumsy left hand, I was using a complete new style of mouse. The upshot is that I now use this Evoluent left handed mouse exclusively, and very adeptly. It is awesome. I highly recommend these mouses. Mine is the Vertical Mouse 2, and I have had it going on a year now. I see they have a new model VM 3 out now, and it is probably more advanced yet. Another thing I notice is that you don't have to move the mouse all over the place all the time. You can do what you need to with a lot less squirreling around. Well worth the money if you have any problems at all, and even if you don't (yet) You may be able to avoid future problems.

As a software developer, I spend eight to ten hours every day in front of my workstation.
Several years ago, I starting using my left hand for mousing because of chronic pain in my right shoulder. It was a good switch for me, though after a few years I started to feel some pain and general numbness in my left hand after long days at work. After purchasing the Evoluent vertical mouse, my wrist discomfort and numbness went away after the FIRST DAY of use! If you haven't already read the product literature on the Evoluent web site, go read it. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a more ergonomic mouse.

A Better Mouse,

I use a pc 8 hours a day and I have pain in both wrists and all my fingers. I purchased a Left handed Evoluent and a Right handed 3M Ergonomic mouse. (I use both on the same pc) The Evoluent is a well made mouse with programable buttons and a slew of other options but I still have tension in my fingers. My wrist pain has gone away. This mouse tracks across the screen with very little movement but I have some difficulty using the buttons because I have large hands. I prefer the 3M Ergonomic mouse. It doesn't track as fast as the Evoluent and it doesn't have programmable buttons, but it relieved both my wrist and finger pain. Beware, both manufactures reccomend having your fore arm at a 90 degree angle to your upper arm when you use the mouse. The 3M was hurting my back until I got my workstation set up properly.

I couldn't believe how light and easy to use this was. I'm a right handed person. The scroll wheel is so smooth, and you can configure all 5 buttons as you please, making for a great surfing experience for example (1 button to close a tab, etc.)
Great to use on your laps, desk, etc. Really thanked for.

I have got RSI for about half a year. I have may mouses, Logitech, Microsoft, Dell, HP, that is really a lot. This is the worst one I have seen in construction quality. When you touch it, it just like the mouse I used to use in China, which you can buy for just 3 dollars. Of course this one is made in China, and it made by some some factory without sufficient quality control. It not worth 70 dollars to buy it.

Evoluent Vertical Mouse left handed,

I purchased this item on Sept. 28,2009 and the top button stopped working a week ago. I have had to replace it with an old mouse I had. I am left handed and the mouse was great while it worked. I am concerned that it broke so soon. I would not purchase another one.

I thought this mouse would help my hands recover from carpal tunnel syndrome. Didn't help at all. In fact, in some ways the position is awkward.
Also, the mouse would be significantly better if it had just a bit more heft to it. I think it's just too light.

Good hand positioning, but mouse buttons too stiff,

This review is from: KeyOvation VM2-LSB Vertical Mouse - Optical - USB - Silver, Black (Personal Computers)
I've been using this mouse for a few weeks now. I purchased it after receiving several recommendations from peers who've had RSI issues. I'm right-handed, but have been alternating mousing for a few years now, so switching from right-to-left was an easy adjustment for me. Although I've been regularly using my left hand for mousing, I had previously kept the buttons configured for a right hand. That's been the biggest adjustment for me, but to be fair, I felt that I should adjust to the default layout since this mouse is strictly left-handed. So far, so good.
It's comfortable for my 7-3/4" medium-to-large hand. At first, I thought my pinky finger was getting sore from the positioning (i.e. other fingers resting on it), but that was for only a day. With some positioning adjustments, my shoulder, arm, wrist, and hand all seem to be much more comfortable than with traditional mice. The accuracy is decent. Good DPI as noted in the item description. I'm glad the thumb button is "dead" by default as I keep clicking it on accident. There is a difference in precision clicking since the mouse buttons are pressed on the horizontal axis instead of the vertical one, as others have noted. But I'm adapting without even trying -- like most new things, it just takes using it to get better. The height of the mouse is also something to get used to, if only not to keep knocking it off of my KB/mouse tray. That's just me being clumsy I think. My only meaningful complaint is that the mouse buttons require more force to click than I expected. They feel almost as stiff as the right-handed Logitech mouse I had been using (MX518) or the MS Wheel Mouse Optical. I was hoping for something like the HP WX414AA Wireless that I had picked up as a temporary replacement for the painful (to me) MX518. After a day of mousing, I would describe my left hand fingers as being "tired". As I've only been using this mouse a few weeks, I suppose that could be residual discomfort from previous mice, but as it's my left hand, there's not nearly as many mouse miles on them as on my right. Overall, I'm glad I purchased this mouse. It's more comfortable for my hand than "horizontal" mice. But the buttons need to be softer.

-works well 1 month after purchase to use the medical data entry on off hand with dictation mic and software for the right hand
-cord very long but thin so may be prone to breakage if trapped or chronically bent. -overall excellent mouse -not given 5 stars until it's proven its worth for a year.

Good product, but could be better.
Pros: Position of hand and wrist are in a more natural position. Feels good. Cons: Expensive for just a left-handed mouse. Bulky. Hard to grip some times. Would be nicer if it was smaller. Has four buttons which I don't need, for me a con. Shape of mouse itself needs modification for better hand position. Fingers are not in a natural curved position. Front buttons are very slick. Hard to click sometimes. Cursor does not move smoothly. Maybe I just need to get use to it. Emailed vendor and provided constructive criticism, but received reply stating there was nothing wrong with their product. |
