Biography

Death Cab for Cutie knew immediately that Kintsugi would fit perfectly as the title of their eighth studio album. A philosophy derived from the Japanese art of repairing cracked ceramics with gold to highlight flaws instead of hiding them, kintsugi speaks to the way an object’s history is part of its aesthetic value. “Considering what we were going through internally, and with what ... I bought this album accidentally, thinking I was buying a legitimate copy of Codes and Keys - the covers look similar. I thought, "What the heck - this could be great! Maybe I've had a happy accident." Yeah....NO. More like I dropped $10 down the sewer grate. I kept listening to it thinking there might be one redeemable track, and the Home is a Fire remix comes close to being close. However, I'd still only throw that a 2 on the 1-10 scale. In short, if you like DCFC and have good taste, avoid this drivel. It will make you angry, and possibly depressed. I've bought lots of stuff over the years and I NEVER review anything. The vomituousness of this album has jarred me into action.

Ok so this was a decently wrapped dumpster-fire. Codes & Keys was a different album for Death Cab and it was a great one, but it did not always work with this remix. Highlights were counted among half the album at best.

- Some Boys (RAC Maury Mix)
- Doors Unlocked and Open (Cut Copy Remix)
- Codes & Keys (Yeasayer Remix)

Other than that the album is a basic remix album. Odd electronic mixes done by artists who love sound but to anyone who doesn't have that desire to cut apart and mix electronically then it just won't land for you like it will others. Its similar to Radiohead's TKOL RMX 12345678910 album in that there are good ideas, bad ideas, and some that are unrecognizable as ideas. Hardcore fans will buy this. I'll admit, I picked up two copies (one for me and one for a friend who is obsessed with the band) and I'm not sorry I own it, but it won't be in my regular rotation. Enjoy it, maybe listen to it all on youtube before you buy it to see if you actually like it.

To hardcore fans: you'll like it. It IS Death Cab after all. They rarely make bad music and this isn't truly them (its other people using their music) but its a fun idea that pays off in some ways. Enjoy.
