Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book takes a no-holds barred look at the many issues modern parents are dealing with, such as whether to smack, time-outs, discipline and what to do with a defiant teen. I finished reading & am going to start again - and again - until ALL OF these things I should know sink into my thick head. I love the easy techniques - the common sense approach & I admit I need to break some of MY bad habits to apply them." - Kidspot

From the Back Cover

How would you feel if your home was peaceful and filled with laughter and love instead of arguments and disrespect?

What if there was a way to end all the arguing, whining, backchatting and rudeness in your family in just a few weeks?
The 5 Keys parenting system shows parents how to easily combine the firm, clear boundaries of traditional parenting with the more involved and affectionate style of modern parenting. Yet the methods by which these goals are achieved revolve around just 5 simple principles! From toddlers to teens, educator Sue Edgerley serves it up with the insight that only another parent can have. It is a sometimes confronting, but always engaging read, and a must for new parents as well as parents who want to feel empowered again.
5 Keys Parenting has been featured on national television, newspapers and radio talk shows.

At last a book that can put new and not so new parents on the right road for, firstly enjoying parenting in a positive way and secondly, giving the children a chance to enjoy a positive parent.
Yes, much of our parenting techniques of the past could do with a revamp as also, much of the new way of parenting could do with a revamp.
I think this book combines beautifully the two techniques.
Sue started using the new way techniques to begin with, but soon realised the down sides. By combining some of the older techniques of her own childhood parenting, she in my opinion, has achieved a much better balanced parenting.
I hope this book can be presented in the positive light it was written in.
Congrats Sue.

Sue has written a no-nonsense book about raising a family. Her suggestions are simple to follow and I can vouch for the results as I have raised five children myself using the same principles. My three sons and two daughters have become responsible adults and are now bringing up their own children. I have always been proud of the fact that I could take my kids anywhere in society with confidence thay they would behave. I love having their children (my grand children) around to my house and I am happy to take them out in public because they are so well mannered and socially adept.

I started reading this book two weeks ago and after the first chapter only read one a day so that I could implement the ideas. I love it! I am more calm. My two eldest (11-12) who are familiar with rules but not consistency are thriving. My youngest (7) is taking a little more time to come around, but also recognizes the consistency and is beginning to decide that the consequences are not always worth the expression of his anger. Thank you!

Finally! Parenting advice that puts parents squarely in the driver-seat of their family. This book outlines sensible, practical suggestions for helping our kids grow up self-confident and polite in a happy, well-functioning family. And, for busy parents (who isn't?!) it's a relaxed read that gets to the point without all the waffle. It has made a difference in my family already.
