Book Description

January 6, 2009
Caroline Baker is having a day like no other. While playing hooky from her job as an independent soybean trader at the Chicago Board of Trade, she is approached by a man looking for a lift into the city. As they are driving to his downtown office, the stranger makes another request: he needs her help in retrieving a sensitive file from his office. Caroline agrees and easily collects the file, filling the rest of her day with bathing suit shopping, fending off attempted purse snatchings and giving a philandering boyfriend the boot. It is only after this very long, very strange day that Caroline finally opens the mysterious file. Its contents will not only spring unlucky-in-love Caroline into the romance of a lifetime, it will plunge her headlong into an international adventure with the fate of the entire international banking system at stake!

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent mystery read, June 7, 2009
This review is from: The Keys to the Vault (Hardcover)
The first for this author. Already a proven winner. Much in the style of James Patterson. An easy read but nothing given away before the right time as all great mysteries are. Hope to see more from this author. Also audio format would be nice. Ready for a great new mystery-here it is. 5 STARS OUT OF 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great debut novel!, October 12, 2009

This review is from: The Keys to the Vault (Hardcover)
The Keys to the Vault is the debut novel from author Jim Colombo. In his debut novel, Mr. Colombo introduces us to Caroline Baker, an everyday, hard-working and looking-for-love sort of woman. One day, while pumping gas into her beloved sports car, Caroline is approached by a handsome stranger asking for her help. She has a feeling that she can trust this stranger and feels a strange sort of an attachment. What she agrees to will forever change her life as well as put everything into a whole new perspective.

With The Keys to the Vault, Mr. Colombo does a delightful job in presenting his characters, as well as forming an interesting plot and storyline. Parts of the story did seem a bit far reaching, however the end ties everything together very well and answers many questions that arose for me as I was reading. There are no loose ties and the ending leaves room for the continuation of Caroline Baker's adventures. I found this to be a very quick and a very fun story. The reader is able to fall within the story and delve within the characters. This is a thought provoking international mystery that will leave the reader thinking "what if" at the possibilities that The Keys to the Vault opens up, especially in today's rocky economic times.

I would love to see a bit more in-depth characterization with Caroline in the future, as well as other characters. Mr. Colombo shows a wonderful talent and I look forward to reading more in the future by him. Anyone who is looking for a mystery will enjoy this entertaining read.
