5.0 out of 5 stars Low key, but excellent information, August 21, 2002

Don't let the low key delivery put you off.

Bill Pearl personally takes a number of non-professional exercise people through instruction in weight training exercises. He points out flaws in technique, and also talks about cardio warmup and good nutrition. Knowing how not to get hurt is as important as the rest of the information.

DVD of this would be really nice. I watched it from a library edition, and will buy the tape if I can find one.

I have his book, which provides lots of variations on exercises for all the body areas. His emphasis of working major muscle groups first, and lesser areas like biceps last is important. I recently strained elbow ligaments, and 4 months of positive work is now down the tubes as I am now off weights for 4 months now, and still in pain. I wish I had watched this tape before I started my weight program. He emphasizes that you want to feel the weight, but never strain. That's the key to staying injury free. Straining with weights, and poor technique will defeat you through injury. Success induces you to do more and strain for more gain, but it will just result in injury. I fell victim to it, but will go back to weights the wiser now.

I am a slim but athletic, 49 year old "hard gainer", and gained 12 pounds in 3 months. My wife definitely liked the improvements, and wants me to get back to it, once my arm is recovered.
