1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING - not compatible with Intel Macs
This product does not work when connected to an Intel Mac running 10.5 (Leopard). Keyspan has been acquired by Tripp Lite and after several frustrating adventures with their tech support, it appears that there is no plan for further development activity. This would seem to be a dead product, at least with respect to the Mac.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with OS 10.5, November 1, 2008

The Remote only works through 10.4 and the packaging is misleading. I had to send an email to customer support to find out the problem. Now I have the headache of returning the item.

5.0 out of 5 stars It rocks, July 28, 2005

I've had it for about six months and never been happier. Great addition to my airport express. My batteries have lasted all this time on the original set. Sounds like that other reviewer may have a bad unit. Highly recommended.

I took the Keyspan remote out of the box and was set up and using it within 5 minutes. I'm streaming music wirelessly via itunes and an airport express. The Keyspan remote is connected via usb to the airport express, enabling me to remotely control the music on my PC.

This little remote is a quality piece for watching TV on the PC. Since my computer is in the same room as my futon, it makes movie-time much easier to work with and allows me to watch season after season of this and that tv show without the bother of getting up to grab the keyboard every few minutes. Additionally, its range is much higher than that of my wireless keyboard and mouse, and it's equally easy to use. Additionally, since it can be EASILY reprogrammed, I have no issues using it on obscure programs (though I tend to use it with Winamp). It occasionally gets hidden under the covers late at night, but it's color makes it relatively easy to find. I have read a lot of reviews about the batteries. The batteries themselves that come with it are Maxell CR2025. I searched around and asked battery experts. They CANNOT be purchased in rechargeable form, and since most of the reviews say they die rather quickly, I always pop off the back cover and take them out when I'm not using it. There have been whole days that I have forgotten too, but even now, after over a month of use it has not died on me. Also, you can buy 5-packs on e-selling sites like this one for 4 dollars. They are small, but so far I haven't lost the batteries or the remote.

Our square dance club has been using this remote for a couple of years now. We frequently dance to recordings off CD, and often the person controlling the player has to be on the floor dancing. We have adapted the remote slightly to allow a wrist strap, allowing it to be out of the way when dancing but quickly there if we need to suddenly stop (we often do). As long as you have fresh batteries the remote works flawlessly. If you find you are having trouble with the system not receiving commands check your remote battery first. We have had some batteries last a long time while others wore down quickly. So far there has never been a time when we were having problems with the system that a fresh battery didn't fix it. We have even dropped the remote on concrete and popped off the battery casing and when back together it continued to work just fine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works but EATS batteries!!, June 8, 2005
This review is from: Keyspan URM-17A Express Remote Control (Personal Computers)
I bought this remote several months ago and it works as advertised and was easy to setup and use. One complaint I have about is it EATS batteries when not in use. The batteries that came with it were dead within a couple of weeks. I purchased more and they too went dead in a couple of weeks. I don't use it all that often and store it in the receiver as shown in the pictures. Emails for support request to the manufacturer went un-answered. So, all in all, I would say stay away from this item. Not worth the money wasted on changing the batteries in the remote.

I odered this to run Front Row and enable a remote control on my non IR equipped Dual G5 PowerMac. I downloaded the new software from Keyspan and had this thing working in less than 5 minutes. I now have not only Front Row on my Dual G5 but a wireless remote to boot. Works perfectly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended, January 25, 2007
This review is from: Keyspan URM-17A Express Remote Control (Personal Computers)
I've had this for two years. Using with Winamp, ATI Multimedia Center (TV tuner software), and other media players on Windows XP. The software can be cumbersome to set up for each program you use, but having the ability to customize for any program that uses the keyboard to execute commands, it's worth it. Also have used it with PowerPoint presentations.

If you want to transfer your settings to another PC, you can copy the install folder from "C:\Program Files\Keyspan" to your new computer, then reinstall the software.

The keymapper uses about 4MB memory. The remote's battery lasts me about a year with daily use, and are $2 to replace.
