UPDATE 10-20-2013
This product is now available in my Buffalo Minnesota Wal Mart 28oz for $6.88
It appears Keystone is now working with WalMart locations in more states
I believe preppers are asking WalMart managers to stock this product

This review is geared toward those who are contemplating canning your own meat vs buying it from Keystone. Many of us don't have the time to do all the work involved; buying meat, cutting up, canning equipment, time, cleanup, etc. Maybe it would work if you had a bigger group or have a lot of spare time.

Pros of doing it yourself...
1. Types of meat and USDA grading are determined by you
2. Costs much lower than pre made
3. Larger groups lower costs and quick efficiency to make numerous batches

Cons of doing it yourself...
1. Over cooking
2. Under cooking and health risks associated with an unsterile environment
3. Start up costs of canning equipment
4. Time and labor intensive

If you do it yourself and store long term, wait one year, then send in a sample to a lab for testing.

I bought this can as part of ongoing discussions of long term food sustainability and palatable flavor in my ASSAULT WEAPONS prepper group :) pew pew pew

Keystone makes three sizes of canned meats consisting of beef, pork, chicken, turkey and ground beef in 14.5 oz and 28 oz. The 50 oz can is specifically for beef and chicken with broth. The can I received was produced in January 2013. Less than one month from this review. The label says "No Water Added". But when I shook the can, I clearly heard water. Only two ingredients listed on the label: Beef, Sea Salt. Did they add broth? Waiting for the prepper group to get together for full review. Will update when we open and taste.

I just recently found out about this product on Prepper Website. I'd been wondering how I could store some long lasting protein items. Anyway, it's canned the old fashioned way: NO preservatives, just beef and salt. I'm not used to it so it looked a little strange to me when I opened a can to try it: congealed. For simplicity and an honest taste test I just warmed it in a shallow pan. It tastes good and has a nice texture- softer if you heat it longer.
Other reviewers have said it's cheaper at "****art" or wherever, I don't know, my local one doesn't have it. I'm VERY happy with this and will be buying/eating/storing more.

Pros are this is a good product. Nicely canned, has a great flavor and when they can this stuff they just put the meat and the salt cube in the can and fire it up cooking it right in the can so the natural juices are actually from the meat itself. If anyone knows how canning is done, that is basically how commercial canning is done so do not let that freak you out if you eat tuna it is cooked in the can. The source of this meat is from the Ohio Valley which I do not know if you all care where your meat comes from but as we all know the fears of eating anything from China verses something made right here in the USA well.... that is a big plus. Our meat inspectors are involved, nuff said. The cons sure... one can if your Malmart carries this product I am in Colorado and no Malmart carries this meat, yours might Mine does not. Even if I order directly from Keystone which is located in Lima, Ohio, I would pay as much for shipping to Colorado than thru Amazon because of the distance. Now if I lived in the North East I might save 15 dollars on a case allotment thru Keystone and they do let you mix and match up the meats but you have to buy like 12 at a time and its like $110 but for me again I pay the same and it is nice to get it two or three cans at a time as I stock up and continue to build my food storage and using it as well, too keep the storage of this product from spoilage. The only real con and it almost makes me want to take away five stars is.. when Amazon is out they make this price $28 and when they have it in stock the price goes back down. I am not sure why this is the situation here, most frustrating. Initially when I saw that I called the company direct and almost ordered there. Amazon needs to stop doing that, it only pushes people to find another source to purchase when the price doubles for no reason.

My family loves Keystone canned meats. They have home-cooked texture (we are texture freaks around here), and while NO canned meat looks good when you pull off the lid, these are tasty, handy and with nothing except the meat and salt, they are a great food to keep on hand!

I can't believe that anyone would downgrade this beef. It is all beef, cooked, ready to go when you open the can. The beef chunks recipe on the can with noodles is delicious. The ground beef being cooked makes all the fat you drain away after cooking beef from any other store a waste of money. Every can I've purchased is delicious. You don't hear of this company being involved in any of those recalls that the big box stores are involved in. I have been trying to get my local store to stock this product, but we live west of the Mississippi so I do have to pay high shipping. Delicious and will last on the shelf five years. In times of trouble...good to have on hand.
