5.0 out of 5 stars The KGB are stars
The KGB have the recipe for stardom, shown in the first upbeat and rhythmic "Fortune and Fame." The entire CD is a diverse blend of pop, rock, and feel-good summer songs. 3.0 out of 5 stars Catchy but lightweight
The K.G.B. plays the same kind of energetic, lightweight pop with ska/punk influences that has been recently been popularized by bands like the Mighty Might Bosstones or Smash Mouth.

The songs on this album are all suitably danceable and catchy, as you'd expect from a band whose line up includes a trombone and trumpet player, but there's not much originality on display...

5.0 out of 5 stars The KGB are stars, November 4, 2001

The KGB have the recipe for stardom, shown in the first upbeat and rhythmic "Fortune and Fame." The entire CD is a diverse blend of pop, rock, and feel-good summer songs. Lyrics tell of dreams of stardom, summer loves, lost loves, and players. The songs have original beats and clever lyrics, and the band themselves epitomize rock star potential, with their "east bay grease" and phenomenal live shows. They are way above the music out there right now, so be careful not to dismiss them after just hearing the radio-friendly "Lover Undercover." The final treat occurs during "In Case of a Bad Trip..." after several minutes of bizarre background music an accoustic-ish finale plays. Awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Groovalicious, March 28, 2006

One of the best albums I've listened to in a long time. I heard their song "Fortune & Fame" on the movie Road Trip, and decided to check out their other stuff. Every song on this album is amazing. It's all really happy, uplifting, joyous music. Great melodies, a little funk, a little soul, and a charismatic frontman. I wish I knew if these guys still exist.

Great disc, nice combo of upbeat (1st half of CD) & mellow tracks (2nd half of CD). A friend & I were trying to come up with an analogous group or genre, but it wasn't easy, which is why KGB is a blast to listen to. Complex tracks, hints of everyone from the Beatles ("In Case of A Bad Trip...") to Jamiroquoi ("Long$hot") to Cake ("Isabella"), imo. They're from the SF Bay Area.

The K.G.B. plays the same kind of energetic, lightweight pop with ska/punk influences that has been recently been popularized by bands like the Mighty Might Bosstones or Smash Mouth.

The songs on this album are all suitably danceable and catchy, as you'd expect from a band whose line up includes a trombone and trumpet player, but there's not much originality on display here.
There aren't many shifts in tone and style here, with the sole exception of a cover of Squeeze's "Goodbye Girl".

It's fitting that "Fortune and Fame", the opening and best song on this CD, is featured in the movie "RoadTrip" with the band shown performing it during the frat party, early in the movie:
this is probably a band best experienced live, in a party-like environment, than on record.

4.0 out of 5 stars KGB Rox The House!!!, September 22, 2001

This review is from: Kgb (Audio CD)
I got to see KGB perform live in Oakland and they totally rocked the house! I've heard their song "Lover Undercover" before and I didn't really know what to make of it, but when those guys performed live, I became addicted. They are a small town group gone big and they have the extreme talent to go far. They are as fun as the group Blink-182, but have the talent of true punk/rock stars. Give these guys a chance and see them live! Go KGB!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars KGB - Isabella, July 15, 2004

This album is without a doubt one of the most emotionally diverse spaces of sound that a group of artists could put togethter from their hit single "Lover Undercover" they shot the moon with this record and didn't fizzle out half way there. there is actually more than one good song on the album. not only "Lover Undercover" but, "Fortune and Fame" and "Isabella" with this emo-tearing trilogy the KGB drops "fat-boy" on your heart and after listening you feel completely physically and emotionally refreshed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album I have ever heard, and the best disbanded group ever., March 12, 2008
By
This review is from: Kgb (Audio CD)
If I could give this album 20 stars, I would.
The only full length album the k.g.b released, although they recorded numerous tracks before disbanding.
Cannot be classified by any existing genres or adjectives, just take a listen.

My favorite on this album is Fortune & Fame, so that is why I bought it. But since I've owned it, I have enjoyed listening to several other tunes on it. A nice album -- definitely worth the $2.00 i paid for it.
