This review is from: Khan al-Khalili: A Modern Arabic Novel (Modern Arabic Novels) (Hardcover)
Sacred places are rarely sacred to everyone. "Khan al-Khalili" offers an Egyptian perspective of World War II, following the Akifs as they seek refuge from Nazi Germany's armies. Though a novel, "Khan al-Khalili" offers readers much food for thought when it comes to many aspects that seem to be opposed, such as traditions and change, or faith in an ever-secularizing world. "Khan al-Khalili" is expertly translated by Roger Allen, offering fine Arabic literature to English speakers.
