I immediately bought this when I surprisingly came across this highly rated (though just a handful of reviewers) case during a search on Amazon for an iPad 2 case that would complement the Apple Smart Cover since I was disappointed that the Smart Cover provides absolutely no protection to the back of the iPad.

The case snapped on to the iPad easily and securely, even while the Smart Cover was attached, and all the cutouts lined up perfectly. The quality appears to be excellent in fit and finish, and seems to be a very durable case.

But there are two nagging issues that bother me:

1) The case actually aligns and mates with the edges of the Smart Cover too perfectly as it is now very difficult to open the cover unless I have long, sharp nails (which I don't) to get between the Smart Cover and the case. The only way I can readily open the cover is at the cutout for the data/power cable located at the bottom. It would be better if they provided a cutout or slight "thumb" depression in the middle of the long edge (opposite side of the Smart Cover hinge) to allow a finger to lift the Smart Cover open.

2) Although the case is wonderfully thin adding little bulk and size to the iPad, it is of sufficient thickness to interfere with the magnets that keep the Smart Cover secured in the open position. When holding the iPad in my hand, I have to ensure I wrap my fingers on the Smart Cover to prevent it from simply dangling freely which would make it easier for the Smart Cover to drop off given sufficient inertial motion or bumping. Embedding a thin strip of metal/magnet within the case should restore the Smart Cover's ability to be secured when open.

Besides those issues, the case allows the Smart Cover to fully function, although when folding the Smart Cover into a triangle to use as a stand for the iPad on a desk, the thickness of the case does alter the viewing angle slightly (more vertical), but not enough for me to be bothered by it.

Regarding the grip as one reviewer complained about, the material has a slight rubberized feel to it. It's still quite smooth, but in my opinion the overall weight (iPad, Smart Cover and case) is light enough that there is sufficient "friction" on the case to grasp the ensemble securely without fear of it slipping out. If the weight was closer to a MacBook, then yes, there would be insufficient grip. But this is a lightweight iPad so I see no issues with it. My more immediate concern would be the magnets that hold the Smart Cover to the iPad: if those fail or release unexpectedly, then I believe the iPad may possibly slip out of your hand, case or not.

I wish I got it when it was supposedly listed at only $5, but even at my purchased price of $14, this is an outstanding case for iPads with Smart Covers. Comparable Smart Cover compatible cases are selling for twice this!

The cover just cracked after a day. It actually broke but the rubber coating is holding it together. The case feels very slippery, more than the ipad itself. I can't recommend.

This cover is heavy and it can easily scratch your ipad while you're putting it on or taking it off if you don't pay extra attention. The rubber feeling is just very weird, I wish it had more grip to it. It also doesn't help smart cover stay on place at all. The smart cover easily flies off your ipad. I'd say there should be better options out there.

I wanted to like this cover but it collects dirt and stains very easily. It got scratched in my backpack and the material shows it like a spotlight. Fits OK.

This is the best compliment to your ipad2 Smart Cover. It maintains the ultra thin design while it protects the back side of your ipad2. The fit is perfect. I am very particular about my portable electronic cases. I don't care for the soft gels because they are often too "grippy" and lack a precise fit. I don't care for the hard plastics because, even though the fit is good, they generally have no grip at all and are prone to break easily. This one is just right. Hard enough for a good fit and soft enough for a nice grip and solid durability.

The seller shipped very fast. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Fits well. Controls easy to access. Price is good. Only issue is surface does show scuff and dirt marks. Recommend as a good buy.

The case is too smooth for proper grip and the smart cover is very flush with the case which makes it difficult to open.It is not a keeper.

I really wanted some added protection on my son's iPad2 and this case fits the bill very well. Overall, it is a fairly standard electronic device bumper and should provide some protection to inadvertant drops and slips, but I am not going to test that directly. You shouldn't expect it to protect against epic fails, like dropping it out a 2nd story window. It does not provide screen protection, but as advertised, it is nicely compatible with the iPad 2 Smart Cover.

In summary, the KHOMO is an excellent product and delivers what is advertised, all for a nice price.

While the smart cover works well for the topside of the iPad2, the back is totally unprotected. This cover works well with the smart cover and fits perfectly. I am very happy with my purchase.
