4.0 out of 5 stars Really makes taking control of your finances "do-able."
Tod Barnhart takes a subject that makes many of us cringe, the taking control of our finances, and puts it in an easy to read and fun way that makes you look forward to reading parts of it everyday. Not your ordinary talking down to us "common" folks when it comes to finances. Tod gives you exercises that makes you look at where you may have lost or never...

This book contains 2 things: motivational techniques to get you to "go for it" in the area of finances and some sketchy details about what and how to do it. The motivational techniques are taken almost verbatim from Tony Robbins's Personal Power series. (I realize that Tod was a student of and eventually teacher for Tony Robbins but pleeeeeeese.) If you want or need the motivation, do yourself a favor and go to the source. Get Personal Power II. As for the financial advice? It is general (very few details) and obvious and has been covered more thoroughly and better in 100 other books. Buy any of Ric Edelman's books instead. As Tod says, "I could wax cliche-ically forever on this subject." And he did. The one saving grace is that this book is an easy read so you should be able to dispense with it in an afternoon.

Not your ordinary talking down to us "common" folks when it comes to finances. Tod gives you exercises that makes you look at where you may have lost or never had control and find out how to get it (back). By doing Tod's exercises at the end of every section yo become responsible for your own finances and this same responsibility carries over into your entire life. A good read for today's life style, if you read the book pro-actively and do the exercises.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! Fantastic motivator for focusing on goals., December 31, 1998
This book is great! The topics are quick and to the point. The "to do" lists at the end of each section are within reach, and I'll bet even hard-core procrastinators will be lost for words. I would recommend this book even for those who feel good about their finances, as the motivating topics and goal-oriented theme can positively impact lives in general.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard Sell From Financial Person Looking For Clients, July 28, 2000
This review is from: Kick in the Assets (Paperback)
Nothing but an advertising brochure from a self-described "financial advisor" who is desperate for new clients. His advice is very weak and WILL ONLY MAKE HIM RICH!

4.0 out of 5 stars repetition is the mother of skill, June 23, 1999
By A Customer
It's true that Tod is a Tony guy and that this book is just like a syllabus by one of Tony's master trainers. But that's its strength. It's excellent with simple fun readings and simple daily exercises to make basic wealth building into a daily habit.I agree that you should do personal power. But as Tony's fond of repeating, repetition is the mother of skill. Who knows? As Tony says, hearing it one more time, in one more voice, might be the one time more that gets you to apply what you've heard. After all, Tony stole 'repetition is the mother of skill' from St. Ignatius of Loyola, but that doesn't mean you can't read them both.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware Financial Advisors Selling Books, August 2, 2000
This review is from: Kick in the Assets (Paperback)
Financial advisors who write books often tell just one side -- the positive side of the financial products they tout in their books. Some of the advice in this book is better for the author (and his financial planner friends) than it was for me or other book buyers. Too bad since it's MY MONEY that was wasted. If I had known some of the hidden risks and hidden costs of this author's recommendations I would have made other choices from an impartial source (one who doesn't stand to gain bonuses, commissions or other fees from his recommendations).

2.0 out of 5 stars Some tidbits of useful info mixed in with a lot of babble!, August 3, 2000
By
Shari (North Mankato, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kick in the Assets (Paperback)
The first few chapters were basically an Anthony Robbins book - a lot of babbling about self-improvement etc. There were some useful bits of advice on analyzing your spending, budgeting and investing, but those tips probably only made up 30 of the 250 pages. And you have to wade through the pschyo-babble, bad jokes and just plain boring stuff to find them. I'd recommend buying this book if you are very disorganized financially and desperately need a starting point, and if it was on sale at a big discount! For more advanced info, look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR FINANCIAL LIFE, July 11, 2000
This review is from: Kick in the Assets (Paperback)
Tod is a great writer about finances. I think his advice is sound and worth following. I have both of his books and have profited from both of them. I think we all need a kick every now in then to get us headed in the right direction. Tod sure gives us this kick with his book. I would recommend investing in this book. I don't believe you can own too many books on finances.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Can't put it down.....and I hate to read, January 15, 1999
I received this book by accident from one of those book clubs that send you books long after you have cancelled your account. I opened the box they sent to see what is inside and scan the table of contents...expecting to see the basics restated...I am sure you know.."What are bonds" "How to buy a peice of a company" stuff we for the most part already know. Instead it was motivational and realistic with a normal person who does not have a 20,000 base to dive into...I kept it at the high price of 23.99 because I didn't want to put it down...I wish I would have found it on Amazon first :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book. Really gave me a kick, July 14, 1999

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I couldn't stop reading this book. It explains building wealth in very simple terms for a financial neophyte like me. I appreciated the emphasis in using finances to be the kind of person, you want to be. I was really inspired by this book.
