5.0 out of 5 stars The Best and Easiest to follow Kickboxing aerobics Video, October 3, 1999

This review is from: Kick to Get Fit [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been to several different aerobics classes, and I have also purchased a wide variety of exercise videos in the past, but Kick to Get Fit is by far the best exercise video and workout I have ever done. Rich Grogan goes through a terrific instructional section that shows you how to do each technique properly, he also tells you what muscle groups you are working ( A BIG PLUS), because I often think I know what muscle groups are being worked, but I am not for sure, but Rich lets you know. When the workout begins Rich tells you to go at your own pace, just like most other videos, but Rich goes a step further by showing you different ways of doing each technique and continually reminding you that this is for you and " Go at your own Pace". Rich truely has a martial arts background and he understands fitness & safety, and he knows how to bring them together in a SAFE, and EFFECTIVE manner. All the techniques and movements in this video were done in a controlled way, and for the first time doing an exercise video I actually felt the correct muscles being worked, at no risk to my joints. I guess the best part about the workout was Rich's ability to keep my attention with neat, and different techniques that I hadn't seen before, and the controlled manner in which all the techniques were performed. This made the workout Safe and Fun. ( Something that is hard to find in most other videos, whose main goal seems to be, Go as fast as you can, and the heck with control or proper form or fun.) I 100% recommend Rich Grogan's Kick to Get Fit to anyone from beginner to expert. The workout works the muscles it is supposed to and does it in a very fun way. I use his video almost daily & I look forward to his next video.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great exercise video for the family, July 2, 2000

This review is from: Kick to Get Fit [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My family and I have tried a wide variety of different exercise videos, but the problem we run into is there aren't many videos that we can do together as a family. We have tried Tae-Bo, and Knockout workout, mostly because of popularity, but no one in the family could do either one, the people in the videos just moved way too fast. Then we found Kick to Get Fit, and I am happy to say that this is now our family workout video. Rich Grogan show different ways of doing all the movements, so all of us can do the video at the same time. We have family exercise night 3 days a week. This is our way to spend family time together, and get some exercise in at the same time. My family and I really enjoy the time we are exercising together, and are enjoying even more the weight and inches we have lost. I have lost 15 pounds, and my pants and shirts seem to hang off of me, instead of sticking to my body. My wife has lost 22 pounds and 2 pants sizes, while my 3 daughters have all lost weight, and look alot healthier. I am very happy with the way our lives have changed, and I think that others would benefit from this video the way we have.

I have done countless other workout videos, and I have studied martial arts for years. I bought this video hoping for a martial-arts-oriented hardcore aerobic workout with motivating music, but without the complicated dance moves or Barbie-doll instructor. I'm not exactly sure what I got...

First of all, the quality of this video is TERRIBLE! It appears to have been shot in Rich's basement. He has about 6 people trying to do the workout in a 2-square-foot area. I got claustrophobic just watching them.

There is no choreography whatsoever. The entire video is just Rich counting out sets of 8 basic kicks over and over. For this type of thing, I'd rather just do it on my own with my heavy bag, and listen to some decent music while doing it.

The music is what finally made me stop the tape before the end of the workout. Apparently, the music was not playing while they were filming, but was dubbed in later. He does not stay with the beat. After doing choreographed aerobic workouts for so long, I simply couldn't handle this. I tried to stay with Rich, but my body kept trying to stay with the music. It was intolerable. I suppose that with practice, you could learn to ignore the music, but why bother when there are so many other quality workout videos?

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed!! - The worst., December 12, 2002
This review is from: Kick to Get Fit [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm an aerobics and cardio kickboxing instructor and have a large collection of videos. I was excited to get this video since it had a five star rating, but very disappointed when I watched it. I couldn't believe the poor home video quality for the money. The instructor couldn't stick with the 32 count phasing, if he knows what that is. The music was horrible. I turned the volume off because I couldn't stand him and eventually turned off the video. I don't recommend spending the money on this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just in time, December 27, 2000

I got this video as a gift, and it was just in time. I was about to give up on kickboxing aerobic videos because I thought they were all the same, but Kick to get fit is really different. First of all the guy leading the workout, Rich Grogan, seems to understand that not everyone is in 100% great shape and have the ability to go really fast. Rich slows the moves down and shows the viewer a variety of ways to do each movement, he also explains that slower is better for working each muscle and muscle development. Don't get me wrong the video isn't super slow, it is just controlled, and wow what a difference that makes when you are done with the workout. I really enjoy this video and I am glad I didn't give up on kickboxing aerobics videos. This is the one for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW What a workout, Different than most Kickboxing videos, October 25, 2000

Save your time looking around, this is the video you want. The combination are different than any I've seen and Rich Grogan shows you a wide variety of different movements. I have done kickboxing videos in the past that show you two or three movements and you do those same three movements throughout the entire video. Well, that is not the case with Kick to get fit, there are several different combination and a wide variety of different movements. Also, Rich believes in doing the movements at a safe and controlled pace, he claims that doing the movements at a slower pace will work the muscles more effectively, and after doing the video, he is right. I found muscles that I didn't know I had and I am seeing great improvements in the muscles I do have. This video is a great workout, I have recommended it to all my friends.

I bought this video based on the rave reviews it has received. I have the Kathy Smith and Billy Blanks kickboxing videos, and was looking to vary the routine. The first part of the video seemed great, with easy to follow demonstrations, and a killer buns/thighs floor workout. However, the rest of the video was disappointing. After all the talk about "go at your own pace," I thought the floor exercises went much too fast. During the standing portion of the workout, Grogran loses count on every section, and the music beats don't match the workout counts. This may not be a big deal for some, but I found it very distracting. I am used to instructors that are conscientious about working both sides of the body evenly. As to the "fun" factor: Grogan kept telling me to have fun, but I didn't, not even after the fiftieth time he told me to! I can only recommend the buns/thigh drill portion of video at the beginning if you take it at a slower pace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow did I sweat with this one, January 27, 2001

This workout took me by surprise. At first I thought this video was going to be too slow and wouldn't offer a very challenging workout, but half way through the tape I realized that by going slower I was working different muscles than I ever have before. I have done a wide variety of aerobic videos, from Kathy Smith, Denise Austin, to Billy Blanks, and after doing Kick to get fit I found muscles that I didn't know I had. Rich Grogan explains at the beginning of the video, that doing each movement at a slower pace will add more control and will work each muscle group more effectively. HE IS CORRECT! I didn't realize the slower and more controlled could be SO EFFECTIVE. I am like most people and I believed that you had to go really fast in order to sweat and have a good workout, this video proved me wrong. I had sweat dripping off me and my muscles were screaming. This video is a keeper.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good but too short, August 21, 2000

I like this video well enough but don't quite understand why it's gotten such perfect rave reviews. The aerobic portion is only 20 minutes long and often the counting is off the beat and out of rhythm. I do like Grogan's engaging style but a few too many times the cueing is messed up and the people are out of sync. It's a very good workout to do when one is short of time or to do in conjunction with another video to get a good workout, but many of the other videos I've seen, including Tae-bo, are more professionally done and offer a more complete workout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Exercise Video, May 14, 2000
By

This review is from: Kick to Get Fit [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been exercising fairly consistantly for the past 3 years. In that time I have bought a lot of different exercise videos, all promising the same thing, that I would lose weight in a couple of weeks. I have found that you have to be in super shape in order to keep up with most of these videos. But, the Kick to Get Fit video, for me was very easy to follow, and very effective. I believe that the reason the video is so effective is because Rich shows you a variety of ways to follow along with the exercises. To me, this is very important, because with the other tapes I was unable to follow along, so I quit using them. I've been doing Kick to Get Fit for 3 weeks and I have already lost 3 pants sizes and 12 pounds. I can't wait to see what changes happen after 6 weeks. Kick to Get Fit is the video for me.
