5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Humor, December 4, 2008

This review is from: Kick Litter: Nine-Step Program for Recovering Litter Addicts (Paperback)
Kick Litter is a deceptively simple book. What starts out as a joke book -- something you might buy in a novelty store -- instantly becomes something much more. The title tells us the main premise, which is that cats have to kick the litter habit ... and this book absolutely fulfills its promise of giving us the complete method for toilet training any cat...

But immediately we recognize that DiCarlo has something else for us. A pair of seductive characters that remind us very cleverly, and charmingly, of the conflicting tendencies in human addictions. If you don't have cats, you'll wish you did. If you do have cats -- well, don't read this book around them; they'll see it in your face that you wish you had *these* cats. The language and the illustrations are part of the addiction, I think ... A.A. Milne comes to mind.

This isn't really a book about animals though, it's a marvellous little poem of words and image. Perhaps it would be too much to say that it's a microcosm of post-humanist philosophy. Ok, yeah, that's too much. But I predict that like Pooh, but maybe in a more kitschy way, "Kick Litter" will sprout a number of imitators, and eventually a fondness for spin-offs that find the stuff of life in these admirable and noble little self-help characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny book, November 30, 2008

Really funny book that I couldn't put down. I got it for a gift and of course read it before I wrapped it. Got book within a week even though Amazon website said 4-7 weeks?? I really liked all of the innuendos the cats make through out the book. The two cats have diametric personalities that are hilarious. OK artwork. I like the dust cover/poster idea for the book. Definitely recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good yucks, and no more yuck!, December 10, 2008
This review is from: Kick Litter: Nine-Step Program for Recovering Litter Addicts (Paperback)
I thought this book was hilarious! It's a great-looking, entertaining, anthropomorphic romp that just happens to provide the blueprint for toilet training cats, and saving tons of money on litter and cleaning! The cover looks like Pink Panther but inside are photos of two real cats Cooper and Moxie who narrate the story like they're
really struggling with their "addiction to litter."

I bought one for my Grandmother-in-law, and she loved it, too. She's kicking herself for not helping her cats "kick litter" sooner!

5.0 out of 5 stars It works!!!, December 5, 2008
This review is from: Kick Litter: Nine-Step Program for Recovering Litter Addicts (Paperback)
My friend bought me this book, against a number of protests from me*... and it sat on my coffee table for a week before I even opened it. Then I finally read and it's not only hilarious and incredibly addictive... but it's so easy I found myself starting the process within minutes of opening the cover. My cat Jumblee is 14 years old and she had NO problem. She investigated the toilet obsessively for three hours after we started, and thereafter for cute little sessions several times a day. She LOVES it. It was like she was unconsciously wishing she could use the toilet her whole life and we finally put the idea in her head and now she's practically human.

One thing: the calendar is amazing, but if you post it in your bathroom, it may start to crease or wrinkle a little from shower steam after a while. I would put it on your fridge. It's fun to look at anyway --

*First I resisted because i thought it was unrealistic. Then I resisted because I heard some incorrect information about the environmental impact of toilet-trained cats -- some bloggers were saying that cat doodoo in the toilet puts toxins in the water system that wouldn't otherwise be there...but there't a HUGE difference between flushed *old* doodoo, that's been exposed to the air (bad idea -- but almost everyone with a litterbox does this!) vs. CATS DOING IT IN THE TOILET which is awesome and much more environmentally sound than putting toxic doodoo in our landfills!!! CAT OWNERS ARISE AND AWAKE! This is our next enlightenment.

This book is absolutely hilarious, both in terms of the pictures and text. It's great to see a designer take on something like this and put it together so well. I bought it as a goofy gift for my husband (we just got married and merged into a 4 cat family). It's highly unlikely we will actually use it as a manual for toilet training the cats, but it is definitely tempting. Whether you are seriously interested in cat-training or just get a kick out of cats, this is a fun book.

Really funny with great photos and illustrations. It's very whimsical, kitschy, and informative, so I'd definitely recommend it as a great gift for all the cat lovers in your life. The two cats in the story are adorable and the dust cover/poster for the book is very original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even if you don't have a cat, this book is great!, June 3, 2009

This review is from: Kick Litter: Nine-Step Program for Recovering Litter Addicts (Paperback)
I was given "Kick Litter" as a gift, and since I don't own a cat the book stayed unread for about a month before I finally got around to reading it. First off, it's beautifully designed, and the pictures throughout seem to capture the personality of the two cats as they share this strange experience with me, the reader. As I followed their curious tale, I realized that the book is a sweet metaphor for achieving the impossible; you just need to be patient and take small, creative steps. Even if it seems like an unsavory topic, the tale was told with elegance and charm. It's the perfect companion for any toilet, and I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Informative, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Kick Litter: Nine-Step Program for Recovering Litter Addicts (Paperback)
Get Clean and Stay Clean! This is a "tongue in whisker" saga of two cats' journey into a world without a cat box. I'm sure that any cat lover would appreciate the nuance of detail in their adventure to kick their litter "Habit."

Colorfully rendered, it actually shows you, step-by-step, the way you can train your cats to bypass the traditional litter box and "use the bathroom" to do their "business." This removes one of the most unpleasant chores relating to owning a cat and thereby eliminates odors too.

If you own a cat or have a cat lover as a friend or companion, you will get a kick out of "Kick Litter" and may even make your life easier, should you choose to accept its mission. Your cat will eventually thank you too.
