KICKAPOO JOY JUICE, first marketed in 1965, gets its name from a concoction made by characters from the Li'l Abner comic series. The image on the bottle comes strait from the comic series; a hillbilly named "Hairless Joe," and a Native American named "Lonesome Polecat" are raising bottles into the air in celebratory fashion, lauding the creation of their mysterious libation. Were this product to be mass marketed today, I'm fairly certain that there would be a slight backlash in regard to the negative racial stereotypes being portrayed. However, for those who grew up reading the Li'l Abner series, this niche soda seems to serve as a nice bit of nostalgia. As for the flavor of this beverage, it pretty much tastes like Mountain Dew or Mello Yellow, sweetened with sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup.
