Great training guide!, October 7, 2009
This review is from: Kickboxing: A Champion's Guide to Training (Paperback)
This book has been a fantastic guide and supplement to my training. Scott Ashley's anecdotes and motivational stories form a great backdrop to the step-by-step process to building a great fighter. This coupled with the photos and demonstrations help you formulate your own training regiment and program. I have been practicing these tips and guidelines and I can already feel the improvement in my technique. Thanks "Great Scott" for creating a "great" training bible to help get me on the road to success in my kickboxing endeavors!

"Great Scott" Ashley is a legend both to kick boxing and martial arts, who happens to live the life of a champion both in the ring and out. There is no doubt that this book will produce its own generation of champions who hopefully will have the mind and heart of its author. To those who have trained with him or have faced him in the ring he is simply awesome. If you want to to know what it takes to be great read this book and make it your training model.

Excellent book!!, September 30, 2009
This review is from: Kickboxing: A Champion's Guide to Training (Paperback)
If you are like most people you are scanning Amazon.com for the "right book" for Boxing/kickboxing training. I happened to have trained for a short period of time with Mr. Ashley in Davie Florida. I have trained with many instructors in different genres of fighting arts from MMA, traditional martial arts, to boxing. My training with Mr. Ashley was by far the best training I have experienced to this date. Boxing, kickboxing, martial arts, or any sport for the most part is about mastering the basics. Anyone with a good foundation of basic skills will always be superior to a fighter with weak basic skills. The problem I have had with most books is trying to comprehend the small nuances of the basic techniques they discuss and show in pictures. Something is almost always missed when you try the techniques yourself without someone there to watch you. This is not the case with Mr. Ashley's book. Everything he teaches in the book is EASY to follow on your own and NOTHING is missed. His instruction in the book makes it as comprehendible as if he was right there with you. This is the same training routine and instruction he uses with his students in Florida. I have worked out with world champion fighters and great coaches in the past. However, the problem I have discovered in the fighting arts is just because someone is a great fighter does not mean they are a good teacher. Sometimes a great fighter is a great fighter because they can do things the rest of us can not. But they do not understand this and then try to make you like them; it does not work. Scott Ashley is that rare mix of a great fighter and instructor. This book was easy to understand and I know from working out with Mr. Ashley that nothing is missed or can be misinterpreted. I can now maintain my routine in the gym or at home as if I was in a class working out with Mr. Ashley. Just follow the book, whether or not you have prior experience. You will have great basic skills, conditioning, and combinations in your tool box to fight with. A favorite quote of mine I once heard Mr. Ashley say while instructing his students in a boxing gym; "the toughest fighters I dealt with in the ring were fighters with great conditioning. I would rather fight a well skilled fighter with poor conditioning than a well conditioned fighter with only basic skills". This book is well worth the money to add to your library. I look forward to the sequel!
