Kicker has powered my car's stereo system for years with crisp highs and rich, resonant bass. With such a reputation for quality, it's little surprise that the HP541 Kicker headphones do everything they can to live up to the name. And after a few weeks with these headphones, I'd say they succeeded.

First off, the drawbacks. These headphones are large and somewhat heavy, so if you're looking for something to jog with, I'd honestly recommend something a bit lighter. They are a very snug fit, so if you don't like closed environment headphones, you probably won't dig these.

Onto the pluses, of which there are many. The headband is very comfortable to wear, even for extended durations. Audio quality is rich and sweet, pumping out appropriately crisp highs, rich middles, and booming lows. The bass response is surprisingly tight, which I first thought an issue, until I played a few games with them on. Every explosion was crisp and real, present without being distracting. The single connector is a pleasing change of pace for someone who has always used in-ear buds, and the two cables provided are of excellent quality, as well as the larger jack adapter. Bringing it all together is a handy carrying bag for everything. Noise cancelling is present without being overt. I use these primarily with a 30 GB Zune, and all it takes to remove nearby conversation and road noise is to send the volume up from 11 to 13(out of 20). Swivel cups make them an excellent companion for the discerning DJ or studio monitor, and the overall construction is sturdy and durable.

Ultimately, these are audiophile headphones without the audiophile price, and a welcome departure from my previous headphones, ranging from Sony monitor headphones to several varieties of Skullcandy. Even after sampling the impressive fidelity of Bose circumaural headphones, these still reign supreme.

Very versatile headphones for the price. The structure as a whole is rather sturdy, solid plastic construction, the adjustments click into place, both cans swivel rather generously, the cans themselves are slightly tilted toward the back of your head rather than most conventional cans(straight up and down)...in which I have come to find that this style fits perfectly with the contours of our head. The comfort level of these headphones are 4 out of 5 stars, the padding is durable and will last for years, ears do get warm after a couple hours of use, but that's a common factor that you know you're getting into when you look into buying over the ear cans. Onto the sound...I am an audiophile and I want to hear everything down to the core of every recording...that's why these are getting 4 out of 5 stars on sound. These cans are pretty amazing at what it has to offer, deep rich punchy bass, not the kind of bass that sounds like 2- 15 inch subs in the trunk of a 75 caprice classic. The bass isn't overwhelming or harsh, it is very clean and pure. The mids' are thorough and vocals shine, acoustic guitar sounds fresh and prominent, the crunch of Soilwork's guitar makes your ears scream for more and the delicate yet powerful voice of J. Loren of Hurt brings you to your knees. The highs are crisp and clear, more like a warm violin at its peak. There are tons of positive things I could say about these headphones, like all the above, and 2 interchangeable cables (3ft. and 11ft.), soft carrying bag, and an 1/8-Inch to 1/4-Inch gold plated adapter! Okay-those were the pros and now on with the cons...which are few. If you have LARGE EARS, the padding might sit on your ears, I have smaller ears and mine fit perfectly.Read more ›

These Kicker headphones are great! But why spend more when you can get them for less? The Monoprice 8223 is the exact same headphone as this one and you can get it direct from monoprice.com or from amazon for at least $15 cheaper than this headphone! The headphone from monoprice lacks the side decals, otherwise they are exactly the same. How do I know? Because I own both pairs and have dis assembled both headphones.

i enjoy these headphones, the sound quality is very good, bass, treble and mids are all clear. and these will reproduce sound levels that can damage your ears so turn it down a bit, all with no distortion at all.techno, trance, and dub sound awesome. they have 50mm drivers

I recently bought these headphones after looking for a nice pair of over the ear headphones. I tend to analyze everything before I buy it and i compared a few different headphones. It then came down to these and the Sennheiser HD-280. I was actually favoring the HD-280's but the price is about twice as much(around $90). I read reviews about the 280's that said they lacked bass and that was something that I was really looking for. So decided to go with these(HP 541's) because I liked reviews I had seen and the price was right. I definitely do no regret getting these headphones one bit. I love them. The sound quality is really good and the bass is what I was looking for. The fact that you get 2 cables is nice, one about 3-4 feet, the other a more sturdy 11 foot cable. I enjoy using the longer cable to watch tv, and I can lay back . These are also really comfortable and I could see myself wearing them for hours at a time with no problem.

Overall I really like these headphones and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a nice pair of over the ear headphones within a $50 price range.
