5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
Ordered a JBL soundstage ll and returned it after 10 minutes. Wanted it for poolside but the volume outside was pathetic. Might be ok for a small room. The remote, which was supposed to be RF, hence powerful, had to be within 5 ft. of the speaker.

I ordered the Kicker to replace it and was just blown away.

Volume goes to 40 on the dial, but I...

The Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock is a great product IF it's compatible with your "iPod".
I purchased the Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock and didn't find out that the controller supplied wasn't compatible with the iPod Touch G2. The controller only controls the Kicker itself and wont control the iPod Touch. I now find out that the Kicker iK501 iPod Speaker Dock is...

Volume goes to 40 on the dial, but I doubt you'd ever push it past 20. I've got a $1500 stereo system in the living room and this summer the Kicker will make me feel like I brought it outside. The bass is unbelievable! Goes to 50 hz, tight and super defined. Clarity throughtout the audio range. This speaker could serve as a main speaker in your living room for all your music. The remote worked at 20 ft. with instant response. Actually, I didn't try it further, might go 30 ft. Pretty damn good for an infrared. Built in carrying handle, nice wide stable base with rubber ft.
If you want your ipod to fill a huge room or take it outside to blast away at poolside, this is the one for you. I know $300 is a lot of money, but then quality always costs. Truthfully I've only had this a short time so longevity isn't something I can speak to, but Kicker has a great rep in the auto speaker business.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Unit, June 14, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased the Kicker after returning the Altec Lansing IM7 which was freezing my iPod after every few songs. For a small unit the sound is very good. The remote works very well and is easy to use. I find it light weight and easy to transfer in and out of the house. The space area for doing this could be improved as I am only able to grab it with fingers and thumb. The Kicker has separate bass/treble controls although too much bass quickly starts muffling the sound. I have not listened to the other products similar to this, but recommend that Kicker be a serious consideration when choosing a sound dock. I did read that some other units do not have options for treble/bass adjustments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds Great!, August 15, 2009
This review is from: Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock (Black) (Electronics)
I took a chance and purchased this unit based upon the reviews I read online, after returning the Bose Sound System (which was more than $100 more). The bass on the Bose speakers was so flat I just couldn't listen to it. I honesty don't understand what all that unit's hype is about. The Bose sounded better in the store, but at home, where it's quiet, I just could not listen to it. I am VERY happy with this unit, however. It is WAY BETTER than anything comparably priced, or even considerably higher priced, like the Bose. I wish I had heard about this company sooner! I've listened to virtually every similar sound system on the market multiple times and read every article posted on the internet rating and comparing these systems. I just wanted a decent speaker with some volume for my iphone and ipod Shuffle. Everything I listened to at Best Buy and other stores either lacked volume, sounded flat or weak, had no bass, had no adjustable treble and bass, had major distortion at higher volumes, didn't accomodate the new iphone (G3 and up), and was overall disappointing and lacking in features (for example, did not charge the iphone while in use).

This is the only unit I found that had adjustable treble and bass. It can be cranked, and okay, it's not without some distortion re: the bass at very loud volumes, but it's WAY better than anything else I have listened to, including the Bose. This can be played way louder than the Bose and still sounds great! I called customer service at Kicker and its employee said that this unit wouldn't play the ipod Shuffle, but it does, with the Griffin Dock Adapter for ipod Shuffle 2nd generation in full-size dock devices (about $13- $20). The unit plays great, charges the newer iphone while playing (I have a 3G), has a remote that works fine (does not work with the Shuffle 2nd gen, however). It comes with about 5 adaptors for different ipod devices, as well. You have to hold the power button down several seconds to turn the unit off, probably as a safeguard for turning it off unintentionally, but it very straightforward and easy to operate. I am extremely happy with this unit and am pretty discriminating. Highly recommended as a single speaker for the iphone and ipod. Best thing on the market at this price range and several hundred dollars above this range, imo.

4.0 out of 5 stars KICKER kicks @$$!!!!!, February 4, 2009
This review is from: Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock (Black) (Electronics)
The Kicker for the iPod really blows the competition out of the water. The bass is incredible and the loudness of the system is unreal. The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5 star rating is it doesn't have a radio tuner. I don't listen to the radio very often at all but would still be nice to have that option
I recently took my kicker with me on vacation to Cancun and my room was party central!!!! Everyone was amazed at the volume and clearness of the kicker. I was the hit of the hotel!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kicker iK500 speaker Doc, August 28, 2008

This review is from: Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock (Black) (Electronics)
Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock (Black) This is an excellent speaker system for portable use. It has very good sound quality and excellent volume. I also like the option of inputing a laptop or other MP3 player to this speaker system. Two minor shortfalls: 1. the carrying handle is built into the top of the box and is a bit shallow for an adult's hand; you get the impression you will drop the speaker. 2. the dock station is about one centimeter to short. My 40G, fourth generation, click wheel iPod just barely fits into the dock. But it does fit and the remote control works to move thru the songs, something most other protable speaker systems do not accomplish. It would be nice if a carrying case were either supplied or offered as an option. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Kicker iK501 Digital Stereo System for iPhone and iPod (Black)
I got this system for Christmas 2008. I love a punchy but clean bass from my music. This system by Kicker was a sure shot from the get go. I can turn up the volume very loud without any distortion whatsoever. It fills the entire house with some very gr8 sounds. The bass is mighty and always clean. The highs are sweet, crisp and never painful. This is the best system I have yet to hear. My best friend and I have AB'd the Kicker with his B__e. The Kicker won, hands down. I'm sold and so is my buddy :). I agree with another review I read, it does "look like a pissed off Darth Vader".
Thanks Kicker..

4.0 out of 5 stars Kicker Kicks A**, January 17, 2010

I got this as a gift for my daughter and her husband after a couple hours reading reviews here. Basically I believe it to be the best bang for the buck. Spend more and you might get more, as usual. But I wanted something for around $150. This box puts out enough good volume and bass to fill a large room, not a house. I only listened for 5 minutes, but definitely liked what I heard, and I'm a discriminating listener, a singer, songwriter, guitarist. You'll be hard pressed to do better in the under $200 price range, trust me.
BTW, my daughter and her hubby love it. It is now their primary stereo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent performer, December 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kicker iK500 iPod Speaker Dock (Black) (Electronics)
I originally bought this to use for my wife's birthday celebration in a large hall. It worked perfectly with my ipod, and the remote functioned flawlessly. Due to the design which includes five individual drivers, this unit produces clear sound without any rattling bass vibration or scratchy treble sounds at high volume.

After the party I found another great application for this unit. I'm a public school teacher and due to the cheap standard equipment issued to staff members, I've had difficulty implementig multi-media lessons and films. In fact I stopped using multi-media related lessons because my students just couldn't understand what they were hearing. I replaced my teacher-issued speakers with the Kicker and my students were awed by the tremendous sound improvement. Now my students can fully understand what they're hearing, and they are much more engaged in the lessons.

The unit is a little large, but this is necessary to house all the drivers. As long as you don't need a battery powered unit, the Kicker is a great choice.
