Kickle Cubicle

Three stars - Good addicting puzzler

"Kickle Cubicle" is a puzzle game in the style of Hal's "Adventures of Lolo". The game is rather addicting if you enjoy puzzlers.

The main plot of "Kickcle Cubicle" is that an evil wizard king has kidnapped the princess (shocker!). Kickle is equipped with ice breath which he uses to solve the puzzles. Kickle must save the princess, and so embarks on a journey through [four main lands] different themed areas. There are four main islands that Kickle must advance through in his advanced to save the Princess: Garden Land, Fruit Land, Cake Land, and Toy Land, to save the Princess. Each land features a boss at the end. Cake Land has sixteen puzzles to beat, whereas the other three lands have seventeen puzzles.

After defeating the evil Wizard King and saving the Princess, a Special Land opens up. There are thirty puzzles this time around, and the difficulty is more intense than the other four lands.

In the Japanese version, there are more enemies present in several of the levels. Also in Japan, you can play the four lands in any order, though in Europe and North America the order is the same.

Overall, a good puzzle game worth picking up if you enjoy puzzle games for the NES. It is a somewhat rare game. Today such titles would be flash games or appear on social media rather than be a mainstream console release.

The video game website IGN rated this title as the 94th greatest game on their top 100 NES games of all time.

OMG! This game was my first addiction! At the time, I worked at night and would come home in the morning and went straight to the game. I would fall asleep with the game running and my hands on the control. If I got stuck on a level, I refused to go to bed until I completed that level. When my boyfriend moved in, we use to race for the game. When he got on the game, I would be upstairs and he would be playing in the basement with his cussing coming through the vents. When his 10 year old son came over, we had him play the game. Kids are so smart - he completed all levels to get to the bonus levels ALL IN ONE WEEKEND! So, being adults, we cheated - we copied the pass codes for each level so we could start where ever we wanted. When my boyfriend moved out, HE TOOK MY NINTENDO GAME STATION AND MY KICKLE CUBICLE! I was able to find another Nintendo, but it took me a long time to find another Kickle Cubicle (never mind how much I paid for it). That was at least 15 years ago and yes, that Nintendo and Kickle Cubicle is still sitting on my game shelf. CLASSIC, CLASSIC GAME!
