Book Description

KID-ISH YIDDISH is a delightful manifestation of Jewish humor, superstition, and tradition expressed in prose and poetry. Written and richly illustrated "for children of all ages," it returns adults to the world of their youth and, at the same time, introduces children to the joys of Yiddish in an original, colorful, and witty manner. KID-ISH YIDDISH culls from hundreds of years of folklore and humor, tales and object lessons that preserve traditional values in a language that has immeasurably enriched modern Jewish life.

About the Author

ENDEL MARKOWITZ was an interpreter of the Yiddish language which he described as an imaginative creation of subtle variations related to life and human behavior. He found his niche in life by embarking on a program to preserve this tongue from going out of existence. Several years ago, he wrote THE ENCYCLOPEDIA YIDDISHANICA, a comprehensive Yiddish reference book that had wide coverage and was converted into Braille by the Jewish Braille Institute of America.

DEBBY KLEIN has been drawing since early childhood (her mother said, "since the age of two") when she was given some colored chalk and proceeded to decorate the sidewalk in front of the Brooklyn, NY apartment house where she grew up. Attending the High School of Music and Art gave meaning and discipline to what had been "just for fun" and led to her eventual work in scene and costume design, graphics and illustration and, when time permits, painting. Currently, she is a Director of Advertising in Fredericksburg, VA.
