Safe, fun, and valuable program for kids., February 9, 2007
This review is from: Kid-Jitsu: Instructor's Manual - Teaching Children the Art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Paperback)
Mr. Larry Shealy has provided a Jiu Jitsu program for children that works. The program diagramed in this book teaches the teachers on methods of training kids in a safe and very effective manner while implementing honor, pride, and a whole curriculum of values directed toward promting positive attitutes while learning effective jiu jitsu as a standard of self defence and sport as opposed to fighting and bullying. Mr. Shealy's program took what worked in the classical martial arts as far as discipline and order, then mixed it together with the most efficiant fighting and self defence style in martial arts history, brazillian jiu jitsu.
As a practitioner of jiu jitsu i found that Larry Shealy has created a way to teach jiu jitsu in simpler terms for all the kids to get it while having room to add more which is also outlined in the program for the kids that are more advanced in their understanding.
After getting licenced certification through Mr. Shealy's program, I had the confidence and tools to actually teach kids Gracie Jiu Jitsu, and instill values into everday life. Through the younger generations Kid Jitsu is bringing back the respect and honor of Jiu Jitsu which has seemingly been clouded during its popularity and growth. With this book and (DVD available only from the author) you, as an instructor, will be prepared and always have reference to impliment the sucess of Larry Shealy's program right at home in your own school.
