K'nex has made an absolutely wonderful product. I have a 5 year old boy, a 4 year old girl and an 18 month old girl. I am very conscious of purchasing toys like this because my youngest still puts things in her mouth; this toy has several pieces and is very baby friendly. It does have a few small pieces however you can keep track of them easily. The instruction booklet is colorful and easy for my son to follow. My 4 year old daughter loved making windmills. Also, I have not found a toy yet that my kids could not break until I purchased this. As far as being educational my son had to really sit down and take the time to see what pieces he was using and which direction that should be placed. Very fun, very durable (I even enjoyed playing with it). The only thing I would change about this toy is the case it comes in, the parent really as to be the one putting the toy away because the pieces have to be put in an exact way in order for the top to go down.

My 3-year old son just received the Footed Friends for his birthday from his uncle. When I first saw it, my impression was that it would be too frustrating for him. He's not that interested in building with blocks BUT he has a great imagination and once he figured out how to put the pieces together(about 20 minutes), he had so much fun. Everyone in the family has enjoyed creating a variety of critters, machines, tools...it's a blast! We just discovered that you can even use the case as a building platform. A fun idea: throw in a package of feathers. They stick really well into the little blue rods...adding a little magic and spice to your critter or machine. This toy is not only fun but educational. It has inspired story-telling and has increased my son's understanding of structures and space and how things work!

I have a 2 year old and 5 year old, they both love this set and the other Kid Kinex set they have (Footed Friends). It is always wonderful to find something they can both use and enjoy; that is stimulating enough for the older and safe for the younger. The pieces are sturdy and you can really play with what you created. The only two faults are: One set, especially the smaller ones, are not enough pieces by themselves. Soon we had built everything possible and wanted more, hence we bought a second set. My children find it hard to get the pieces back in the carring case, it is a little too tight, and it hinders cleanup.

I have a little boy who happens to have autism. It is so hard for me to find something he likes to do other then hot wheels. But I ran across this one day and thought hummm....So I bought it. I was thinking he might to build something because it had wheels inside. Well I was right. He was asking his Dad to help build things that where in the picture book that came with this toy. He loved it so much I bought the same kit again so he could build more then one at a time. Its a nice sturdy toy! Plus it helps with kids being able to create on there own.

I wish I had known about Knex sooner. We just bought the Rovin Rollers but I anticipate buying more in the series. I like legos and it's nice that there are versions of legos that a young child can use. However, with legos, a young child (say 4 and under) can't really do anything interesting with them other than make stacks and bigger stacks. With Knex, they can put together 3 or 4 pieces and have something interesting with an eyeball or wheel. Some of the parts are prebuilt to make building go quicker. There is also a book which gives you ideas of things to make. I found myself playing with this!Yes. There are small parts but I just keep an eye on my 2.5 yr olds. They have yet to put the small pieces in their mouth but did once chew on a bigger piece. Yes. As another reviewer said, I wish it had a bigger case. A parent has to pack it and pack it carefully or it won't close. That said, it is a nice sturdy case and has held up well to my kids sitting and standing on it. Worth every penny!

The Rollin Rovers, Bug Eyed Buddies, Footed Friends, and the ... ones that come in a Lego Bionicle-like container are worth the money. My four year old son got all of them (some duplicates) and they are all in a bin together for more creativity. Even his older siblings 7 and 9 like to play this. Great hand-eye coordination. The cases are ok, but difficult for the age to use, so we dumped them in a bin with easy lid for him. Great idea for the age group to get them interested in older Lego and Kinex building projects/toys.

I would not mind so much -- except that my 3 1/2 year old had been playing with his siblings (regualr) K'nex for almost a year now without swallowing any of those peices or breaking any, and was able to break 2 pieces of this one day 1. The 8 year olds who opened it with him had fun with it for quite a while too... The idea is great, now if it were as durable as their (regular) K'nex product.

My 2 1/2 year old is having a ball with these. He makes things out of these and then tells me what they are. Of course they look nothing like claims it to be but he is really using his imagination and having fun. I think it won't be long before he's building cities around my house with these. I LOVE any toy that comes in its own carrying case. That was a bonus with these

Great for toddlers with busy hands who aren't quite ready for small legos, etc. Builds fine motor skills in younger children. My 5 year old boy loved it before he was ready for legos.

My 5 yr.old son and 3 yr.old dd, love these, they have all the different types and I dumped them all in a tote with the books and they play with them that way, It's very easy to make the different things out of the books, we have lots of fun with them, I just wish they would come out with a bigger container full of them in the big plastic form. just so that we don't have all the cases laying around. We got one for a gift for one of his friends and they loved it too. Would recommend to anyone with small kids. |
