Great, but not Fantastic,
By
This review is from: Kid Wrangling: Real Guide to Caring for Babies, Toddlers, and Little Kids (Paperback)
This is the sequel to a Bun in the Oven. But...this is a pretty good book. It has up to date info on all sorts of stuff and covers newborns to little kids. Some of the sections could use less info, while the development portions could use a bit more. There are also chapters on good toys to buy and ideas for games to play when it is raining. A majority of the info was gathered from real moms who took Cooke's Kid Wrangling survey...so it is useful. I just wish there was more on development.
This book is not as an amusing read as a Bun in the Oven, either. While there are bits of humor in there, the laugh out loud funny parts just aren't there. That disappointed me a little. All in all, this is a good book, though.

I picked up a baby book when my wife first got pregnant and as at the time it all seemed along way off, I couldn't stick with any - frankly it all seemed a bit too much.
I picked this up at the start of the third trimester and devoured it in days - all of a sudden reality and humour replaced dread. I realised I was on to something. It is pragmatically divided in to sections like Bottoms, Feeding, Sleeping, etc - its a kind of a cross between "what you really need to know" and a Dummies Guide. Buy it.

This is my favorite parenting book. Sensible guidelines, useful ideas laced with humor that shows the author understands what her readers are experiencing and looking for in a book on parenting.

My son in New Zealand was about to become a Father and asked me if I knew where he could get hold of a copy of "Kid Wrangling". They had everything else for the baby, so I felt this was something I could help with. I ordered it on-line, and it arrived just after our wee girl, at their NZ home, both in perfect condition. Even though the book came from the States, and I live in Australia.. it all went well.I still haven't met my grandaughter.. but at least I can leave the advice giving to Kaz Cooke.

While the size may be daunting to new parents, it is easy and fun to read. It is a spoof on so many hard parenting situations yet gives great advice and allows for some chuckles before that first baby arrives. The last month can be so long for the new mom and dad, this is a great shower gift or last month of pregnancy gift. I got great deals at Amazon even with shipping, they were half price. A must read!

Not as good as Australian version of "Up the Duff",

I got this book because I loved "Up the Duff" the pregnancy book, it its original Australian version. Being married to an Aussie I was familiar with all the slang and loved it (some Americans may not get the humor and need the American version though) It's ok - but not as funny as the original. The only helpful thing about getting the American version of these books is that the resources cited are in America, not Australia, which is more relevant if you live here! plus the conversions are in imperial, not metric, which is also easier for us Yanks.
