We got *seven* extensions for this and put a fence across our den, marking off a one-hundred-square-foot area for the lil'guy to crawl around in. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great gate if you're not planning to use extensions.
I have this gate set up in two different parts of my house... one part as-is, and one part with two extensions. The gate that that has no extensions is very durable, and easy to open, however there is a bar that goes across the bottom of the "door", and myself and my guests are always bumping bare toes on it...ouch!

In the other part of my house, I have this...

I was worried that the length would make it insecure, but it doesn't: Just be sure not to have the fence completely straight; use the nifty connection corners to alternate turns, using either angles back and forth or a serpentine pattern. Then hang stuff like toys, instruments, and mobiles from it. Our lil'guy loves it! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gate, February 18, 2002

This is a great gate. We were looking for a gate to go around our fireplace as soon as our son started to crawl. We researched numerous gates and found this one to be the best. It is fairly easy to install and is very sturdy. It is very easy to open the gate. We had to buy the 24 inch extension to add to the gate and this was easy to install as well. What I really liked about this was the fact the mounting for the gate is set up a little higher on the wall. This makes is much easier to install as you dont have to worry about the baseboards. We have two other gates on our stairs and in each of these you had to deal with the baseboard because of the low mounts.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best gate ever, June 25, 2001

Although i have no kids, I do have dogs and needed a gate that could stand some abuse and be easy to use as well. Of all the gates I have tried over the years, this is the one to get. Easy to set up, easy to move and sturdy as well. This is a well made, well thought out product and it's about time. Order additional mounts and you can move this gate to several areas within a few minutes and feel secure. Besides all that it is attractive and will fit any decor. Plus replacement parts as well as the additional mounts are available from the mfg. as well, so if you need to add or replace there is support behind you.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT INVESTMENT- safe, attractive, easy to install, April 4, 2003

We have a wide staircase and have tried every gate that you can imagine. Our baby is 14 months old and has managed to knock or climb over every single one.....execpt the Kidco Configure Gate. I was a bit hesitant spending so much money but it is the best investment we have made. Our baby cannot climb, bite, open or, most importantly, get hurt on this gate. It is high enough that tall people can open with ease (one handed) and best of all EASY to install! It took me about 20 mins to have this gate set up. Great investment, SAFE for children or pets, and attractive for your home! (Don't be fooled by other gates they are difficult to put together and you must buy extra parts to make them fit the odd space you have in mind)

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't hesitate for a second.....WORTH EVERY PENNY!!![.], March 26, 2003

Having 22 month old twin boys and a multi level home with stairs, decks etc... we own many gates. It's these areas that are wider than 48" that are hard to secure. We have tried several of the wide area gates.....NONE COME CLOSE to this gate on all levels. First of all, this gate has the walk through door with an incredibly easy to operate handle that is childproof. It is VERY sturdy, and EASY to install. The instructions claim that it takes a half hour.....this is absolutely the truth. Easy to read instructions, versatile installation applications, for uneven areas etc.. It is really worth it. Would also highly recommend the Hands Free Gate for areas that are 48" or less....this is a walk through gate, super strong pressure mount, installs securely in five minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST GATE EVER MADE!!, March 27, 2004
This review is from: KidCo Configure Gate (Baby Product)
This gate is the best! We have an unusal opening from our kitchen to our living room and this was the ONLY gate that would fit in the opening. We had to buy this gate and the extension for it to work. It was quite pricey, but when it's the only gate that would work we really didn't have a choice. The construction of it is SUPERB. We have a 6 1/2 months old baby but orginally bought in for our 2 dogs. It is extremely sturdy, when the dogs are the in the living room with the gate shut and they jump on it when someone is at the front door, it does not move. The total weight of the dogs are 120lbs together. It has never budged and our one dog can be quite persistant about jumping on the gate. It is more than sturdy enough for an infant or a toddler. I have gotten more complaints on this gate than I have about anything in my house, everyone says how nice it looks. I would recommend this gate to anyone that needs a gate for unusual openings and also a gate that will probably last forever. My sister-in-law as gone through at least 3 wide-opening gates in the past 4 years and has spent a lot more than we paid for this gate, it is worth every penny. It detaches from the wall in seconds, swings open either way and has a squeeze handle that a toddler could never open. Half of the adults we know can't even figure out how to open it, they end up stepping over it. It's a no-brainer to use but the squeeze handle is concealed so well that you have to know where it is to use it. It just has a terrific design and structure. I'm just glad someone invented a gate like this for unusual openings and with such SUPERB quality. Definitely a five star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this gate!, March 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: KidCo Configure Gate (Baby Product)
This gate is terrific! It's easy to install. It fits anywhere, even odd angles and imperfect walls. My toddler can't climb on it, and he still hasn't figured out how to open it. He knows where the handle is, but it requires adult pressure to open the gate. It was a little expensive, but it was a great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gate!, December 22, 2005
This review is from: KidCo Configure Gate (Baby Product)
This is the best gate for a large opening! I had such a hard time finding a gate that was big enough for the doorway into our den, but this one is great. We've had it almost a year and it's still like new. Our 1 year old pulls on it all the time and it holds up great. I definitely recommend this gate!

Only bad thing: At the part you walk through, there is a bar at the bottom that you have to step over. At first you forget and "fall" over it. Once you get used to it, it's fine. This would not change my opinion about this gate at all.

LOOK NO FURTHER- BUY THIS GATE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spendy, but worth it., September 17, 2005
This review is from: KidCo Configure Gate (Baby Product)
Previously, we were using a wide gate from Evenflow to block the 64" entry into our kitchen from our mudroom. The Evenflow gate had a plastic block that served to stabilize the pivot point at which the gate opened. It had cheesey rubber feet on the bottom that never actually kept the thing from sliding, so we changed to this gate.

Wow. Unbelievably solid. It was expensive, but I'm glad we changed to this one.

My only 2 quibbles with this are the fact that it's only adjustable to a point (some gates have a slide & screw method to make an exact fit) and you cannot mount the entry gate at an end - it MUST be in the middle, or if you get extenders, just not at one of the ends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Gate, September 28, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: KidCo Configure Gate (Baby Product)
I originally purchased this gate to keep my chihuahua off new carpet. I had purchased probably 5 different gates to block off various areas of my home, and decided a walk-through gate would make my life easier. I ran into the issue of not finding one large enough until I came across this one. It's a fantastic gate. It's very sturdy, and has held up through two years now of moving it around and re-configuring it for different space sizes. I love that I can mount the sides to the wall for something more permanent, but remove it when guests come over (if I want, although it's definitely presentable as well). Lately, I've bent it into a U-shape and let it stand on it's own since my dogs don't ever try to knock it over or anything. I can still walk through the gate, and it stands on its own. As I paint different rooms, I move it around with me to avoid having to close doors. I'm planning to purchase another since I now have two large openings I'd like to block, and after shopping around just to see if anything else is available, I've found my way back to this one. I definitely recommend it!
