A great solution for a wrought iron gate problem,

Others on here have discussed how well this works, so I think I will provide a little detail of our exact experience. We originally purchased a well reviewed, non-pressure mounted baby gate for our stairs. However, I realized the assembly was far too complicated, so instead we purchased an additional KidCo G15. We already had two and were extremely happy with their simplicity and quality.
One side of our staircase is a wall, so it presented no problems. The other is a wrought iron gate, so it presented plenty of problems. At first, I only ordered one Y Spindle, then realized when I received it that you actually need two, one for the top (as you see in the picture of the Y Spindle) and the other for the bottom (not pictured). We got our second one and installed it and couldn't be happier. It is SO easy and SO simple compared to the other remedies I found that I highly recommend it to anyone dealing with a similar problem.

Works like a dream,

This spindle attachment is exactly what we needed. Our stair well banister and the wall do not match up at all - the gate would have to be slated and we did not want to drill into the banister. The spindle attachment allows us to use the tension option on the gate without having to damage the walls or banister. We love it!!! If you have a wide staircase, I would recommend getting the gate extender to use with the Y spindle option - our son is starting to figure out that he may be able to get up the space in between where the gate ends and the stair rail begins since it is about a 5" gap. Y spindle works great!!!

We looked for a way to install a gate on our steps that have only a railing on one side. We really didn't want to drill holes into the banister, and this was the perfect solution. It works perfectly on both the top and bottom of our stairs with the pressure-mounted gate.

Due to the design of our stairs we had a very hard time finding a gate that would work at the bottom / top of our stairs. This banister spindle attachment works perfectly with the G15 gate. It is super easy to use / install (as well as the gate). I would recommend putting some foam tape or masking tape on the inside part of the "Y" on the spindle. That way it won't mark up the banister when installed.

Fits several kinds of gates! Amazing!!!,

This product is amazing. I had purchased the Dreambaby version of this first but had to return it bc they weren't long enough once installed in the gate to be tight enough since our wrought iron spindle is several inches over from the edge of the stairs, if that makes sense. This fits on the dreambaby gates (though they would never tell you that), plus is several inches longer, making it much more sturdy, plus you can order it in a pack of 1 instead of 2 which is less expensive and always good! I also have a munchkin gate that it fits on just fyi. Also, the "grip" on this is much better than the dreambaby version. It is overall a much more substantial version of the dreambaby one.

Awesome, awesome, awesome,

It's about time someone came up with a good solution for those of us who don't want to drill into our banisters!!! This makes my Kidco gate super sturdy and someday when I'm no longer in need of gates I can just whip it down, store it away, and my banisters will be just as lovely as always!

Perfect,

This spindle allows to to use a compression gate on a stairway that has small or large spindles on one side. At first we had no idea what kind of gate would fit the spidles. I attempted to fabricate something to cover the spindles but still was not perfect. As soon as I installed the y - spindles i knew it was going to work and it is a perfect, sturdy fit. The y spindle also does not put alot of pressure on the spindle and does not even cause it to bend.

The Kidco pressure mount spring gate is great--really well made and easy to use-- I have two of them. The Y-mount allows the gate to be used on open stairways with spindles. I used it one one side (the other has a solid wall) and it is very secure. I use it at the bottom of the stairs for a puppy. Even though it mounts very securely, I might not recommend it for use at the top of a stairway if there is a strong, active toddler in the house. Overall great product--exactly what I needed.

Didn't work for our wrought iron gate problem,

This was an ideal solution except the distance between the wrought iron rail (where the spindle was going) and the gate was too big, which caused the gate to be extremely unstable as it was literally extended to its last thread. This is because the bottom tension rod on the gate was against the base board, and the top was against the rail (2 inch difference). A larger gate was not an option, as the one we had was the largest that fit. I returned and opted for the Kidco gate installation kit which included a piece of wood that we zip-tied onto the railing, allowing for the top tension rod to fit securely against the railing. Problem solved!

Has anyone used these spindles on both sides of the gate? We have a wrought iron banister and railing. Would I need 2 sets or are these sold as a single item where I would need to order 4?
