Large Interior Lets Imaginations Run Wild

With their own kid-sized house, children will be inspired to try a variety of imaginative play. Whether they host a tea party, put on a puppet show, or play pretend, the playhouse will keep your child occupied for hours. The house is large enough that multiple children can play at once, depending on age and height.

Wood Siding for Authentic Look and Feel

Weather-resistant wood siding and a sturdy red-plastic roof give this playhouse an authentic look. A mailbox with flag greets you at the entrance, and the front door opens and closes. Two windows have swinging shutters, while the third has fabric curtains. A toy sink in the corner with hot and cold handles adds to the realistic feel of the playhouse.

This playhouse does not include a floor, so a smooth surface or patio is an ideal base for this playhouse.

Adult Assembly Required

The KidKraft Outdoor Playhouse requires two adults for assembly. Thanks to easy-to-read instructions and labeled parts, the playhouse can be built in approximately two to four hours.

This house is so cute! It is a little smaller than I anticipated but thats just because I don't have a good vision beforehand. We bought this one instead of those plastic houses which fade really fast and it was about the same price.

Good points: Directions, extremely easy to read/understand. Everything was marked clearly and well organized. It does help alot if you have 2 people to put it together it took Daddy and Buck (grandpa) about 2-3 hours.

Cons: The roof material is plastic so hopefully it will hold up with the sun and not fade too much. The door overhang was causing the door to bind, we just put an extra washer (not included) and that solved the problem. There is no floor in the house so we bought 12" paver stones at local hardware store to raise the house in case of rain and covered that with indoor/outdoor carpet.

Overall: I would recommend this house to anyone condiering a playhouse. It is cute and somewhat spacious (we put a toy kitchen in and a chair) it would be a good alternative to those plastic houses. I see this house lasting until the age of 6 or so, 8 would be a stretch.

This playhouse is now known as the Amityville Horror Playhouse at our home. Why? Because the installation process should be the 10th circle of Hell in the rewrite of Inferno. If the Ikea artist that draws their instructions ate enough mushrooms to kill a rhino and then sketched the instructions for this playhouse, the results would very likely have been an improvement over what was provided. It took 2 people 5 hours to get this beast correctly assembled. Even then we left most of the screws that attach the roof out because, unless you are a little person or a contortionist, there is no reasonable posture you can take that will allow you to get those bad boys where they need to be.

The door was assembled and reassembled approximately 5 times because the image of which part faces which way was so small and poorly drawn that you simply had to guess and pray. And then take it apart again and redo it because your prayers were not answered. I'm not an engineer but I have assembled a lot of furniture/cabinets/Swedish sounding items in my lifetime and usually pretty quickly. But this thing...

Once assembled, it weighs a lot so I highly recommend assembling it in its eternal resting spot. And be prepared for some splinters.

Despite the assembly trauma (tears were shed, people) it makes for a cute and quite sturdy playhouse. Even if the roof is only partially attached, it should stand up to the average inclement weather. The kid loves it even if her parents no longer live in the same house (see assembly issues above) and all of the kids in the neighborhood do as well. For the price, worth it. Just plan ahead and consider medicating before opening the box.

We just received this playhouse and put it together the same day. The bad news is that it took my husband and I four hours to put it all together. The good news is that the directions were VERY clear and visual with all the playhouse parts labeled with numbers on the pictures as well as on each piece. The cover of the directions also provided good confidence because they seem to want to please and make sure you are completely satisfied. Our door and the surrounding door frame arrived broken and although we were still able to put it together, we plan to call tomorrow to get another new door. My girls love the house and it is really cute. It seems to run about 10-15" smaller in width and length than other houses, but seems taller than the others as well. We plan to build a floor and deck and raise the house off the ground because in weather the wood will rot. That's the one benefit of plastic, I guess, but this one also looks so much nicer. The picture is very true to life. The roof is red plastic which wasn't as evident to me in the picture, but it makes the house look really nice.

I purchased this house from KidKraft last year. It has held up to outside elements suprisingly well! It took a little long to assemble but the directions were very clear. And once put together it has become one of my kid's favorite toys.

Bought this for my 2.5 year old daughter and just assembled it last night. The picture instructions are pretty good - better than Ikea, but they still expect you to put the entire thing together with little L shaped allen key. The construction is pretty solid - a couple pieces had one or two small splits and some of the parts had to be manhandled to get them lined up due to some warping, but overall very good. Definitely get yourself a set of allen key bits for your drill and assemble it that way. I'm a pretty handy guy and working alone (with my daughter's "help") it took about 90 minutes to assemble. The bottom is open so you'll need to lift it to move it around, or you could attach it to a sheet of plywood as a floor. It needs to be on a pretty flat piece of ground to keep the door from binding up when it opens.

As far as the quality as a toy, it's great - 2 sets of shutters that open and close nicely, a large window with curtains - maybe a good puppet show theater - and a solid wood door with latching handle. The handle is a little awkward and was frustrating for her at first but she got the hang of it. The inside is big enough for 2 or 3 kids to play in, and I'm planning on adding a couple of shelves and maybe a doorbell or other little gadgets for her to play with.

For assembly all you really need is a drill with allen key bit and a #1 phillips bit.
