We originally had the KidKraft full stand-up easel and we loved it. (Alas, we left it on the deck in the rain one too many times and it succumbed to the elements. Totally our fault, not a reflection on the product.) I bought this b/c I was looking for something more compact. It's attractive and relatively sturdy, but it does not fold up for storage and the "espresso" finish leaves a lot to be desired. It chips easily, rubs off when you wash it with water and was initally applied in a shoddy manner, as the white board part of the easel was smudged with the stain when we assembled it. Also, the chalkboard finish is fine, but not stellar. While I wish I had re-purchased the full size easel in the natural finish, my four year old is pleased with this easel and uses it often.

I bought this item for my 6 year old to practice her handwriting, and for a change of media for drawing. She loves it! The only thing I regret is that the white board is not magnetic. This would be the only change I would make to this item.

Good quality - very little to complain about, December 28, 2010

"Santa" brought this to my four-year-old daughter. She loves it, and we were impressed with the quality of the wood construction. Two minor complaints:
- This model is a little thinner than the stand-up model. We bought the Easel Accessory Kit, but the roll of paper ended up being too wide. No matter, my husband used his new saw (also brought by Santa) to cut the roll down, and my son is using the extra bit to make his own comic strips.
- The chalkboard, even after being "prepared" as indicated in the instructions, doesn't feel like a true chalkboard. But, it's not bad.
Overall, I'm very pleased. This is a piece of furniture, not some plastic toy. I expect to be able to pass this down to my grandkids. :-)
