5.0 out of 5 stars Very sturdy!
We bought this toy box for our nursery, and we absolutely love it! This toy box is very easy to put together (I assembled it myself, and I'm 7 months pregnant), and the instructions are very clear. This toy box is also very solid. I can sit down on the top and it doesn't give an inch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks good but not sturdy
This toybox looks very nice and I love the color. However it is not what I would expect for the price. The wood is thin, and the floor of the box will not support heavy toys. For this price I would expect a solid piece of wood to support toys. I ordered the item with the safety hinges, which once installed are very stiff and when closing the lid, pulled the screws...

Also, we really like the safety hinge that prevents the toy box lid from slamming shut on fingers. You have to push the lid to get it to close. We would highly recommend this chest for its durability, simple instructions, and its beauty!

For this price I would expect a solid piece of wood to support toys. I ordered the item with the safety hinges, which once installed are very stiff and when closing the lid, pulled the screws from the frame of the box. Overall, I wouldn't recommend as I think you can find a higher quality toybox for the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful piece of furniture, January 22, 2004

I bought this toy box for my grandchild, and very pleased with what I have purchased. It is not only a functional item, but a beautiful piece of furniture. It can grow with my grandchild, and can be used for a long time in his room. Not only can it be used for a toy box, but as he gets older it can be used for storage and an extra seat with cushion in his room

Thank you for offering this item to us.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very badly constructed, December 12, 2006

This toy box seemed like just what I was looking for for my two boys' rooms to store all of their toys. A little assembly didn't scare me. But it was very awkwardly put together, and the bottom panel is this flimsy cardboard, which ended up collapsing and falling down. I am very disappointed in this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and safe on little hands, January 19, 2005
By
We bought this toy box for our playroom, and we love it! It took awhile to put it together, but I think it was my fault. I did not have the screws tight enough before I tried to place the last side piece on. The instructions are easy to follow. It is a beautiful toy box and very sturdy!
The only problem was how long it took us to get it. It said 2 weeks before it would be shipped, but it was more like two months. Target customer service was helpful and we finally got the box. It was worth the wait!!!
We really like the safety hinge that prevents the toy box lid from slamming shut on little fingers. You always have to push the lid down to get it to close. We would highly recommend this toy box for its beauty, easy to follow instructions, and sturdiness! Just keep in mind it might take awhile to get it. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!, January 6, 2007

I received this toy box earlier this week and already can't imagine life without it! It is VERY sturdy (obvious even before I started assembly that this was the case) I found it easy to assemble. Took me about 20-30 minutes by myself. It would've been a lot easier with some help, but still completely do-able alone.

I did not have any of the problems described in the previous reviews. The bottom on mine was VERY sturdy! I haven't done it, but I wouldn't hesitate to stand in it myself! I'm not at all worried about it collapsing! My hinge lined up perfectly when the lid was shut about 30 degrees. You do need to make sure it's installed the correct way (they don't give a LOT of detail, you just need to look at the picture very closely). I plan on being able to pass this toy box down through several generations. I'm sure it'll outlive me!

I have only 3 (minor) negatives about it:

-The hinge was shipped with so much tension that it wouldn't bend at all. This was easily fixed by using the hex tool provided to loosen tension a little. Didn't need to do this until the last step (which is to adjust the tension anyway!)

-The second side is a little tricky to line up when sliding onto the mostly assembled box. I am a little OCD, so I always tighten screws as I go rather than waiting until the end like directions always say. I had to go and loosen screws to get it to fit together. Even then it was a VERY tight fit, but it did fit. At least I know it won't be falling apart anytime soon!

-I ordered mine from another retailer and it arrived with part of a mud dauber nest attached to the bottom piece. Luckily, they're harmless and there were no live insects! I simply scraped off the nest and you'd never know. Still, would've preferred a shipment without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better value than I expected., August 11, 2011
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased this toybox in white for my niece's birthday. Her parents fell in love with it as well. Assembly was fairly easy, all the pieces were labeled. Only tool I needed was a screwdriver, everything else was included. The box itself turned out to be fairly large when fully assembled and all pieces except for the back two panels were solid wood. The hinge for the lid was the most difficult piece, but once snapped into the correct position, was a breeze. The lid stays up on its own and the slot cut out of the front ensures no little fingers get caught. With some pink paint, wooden letters and stencils I was able to customize this very quickly and easily. Also added a cushion to the top. The box is on wheels and has handles on both sides so transporting it to the party was a cinch. Durable construction makes this a piece that my niece will have for many years to come. If you have kids and need a sturdy, large storage box for their things, this is a perfect solution. I highly recommend this product. I will also be looking into more items that kidcraft carries.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't buy this again because..., January 24, 2006
By
After putting the thing together, the hinge was attached to the side piece in the wrong place, so it wouldn't line up with the predrilled holes in the lid. After calling KidCraft and asking for the replacement side, they sent the wrong piece. THREE tries later, I finally got the right piece. Since it was a "safety" hinge, I was very reluctant to drill new holes for fear it would no longer have that safety feature.

The Kidcraft rep was very nice and helpful the FIRST time I called. After receiving the wrong part, though, I called again..and again..and yet again..before someone finally called

me back. For the hassle I went through and the price I paid, it's just not worth it. It took TWO MONTHS to get this thing right!

3.0 out of 5 stars Its what I expected..., December 29, 2011
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This is the typical "box furniture". The hardware is cheap but does seem to work as advertised (no smashed fingers). Easy to build. I can see that the screws that hold on the hinge will strip out in time. It works well for the price. My niece takes all the toys out and lays in it like Dracula but... that was also expected.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch Little Fingers or Expect Tears, October 20, 2009
It went together easily.
It is nice looking - looks good in the den.

It's nice EXCEPT FOR ONE THING.
If your child closes the top from the side (which my son has already done) they get their fingers caught as it closes.
