Apparently finding a bed rail for a convertible crib is very difficult. This is the only brand I could find. My first advice would be to buy a convertible bed from a manufacturer that sells its own crib rails, or buy a regular crib and then a toddler bed! I'm happy with this product. When I looked at an online manual, it showed the rail attaching to the mattress, but when I got it, the instruction manual shows to attach it to the crib frame. I like that better, because I can now remove the mattress without removing the rail. I did find one drawback with this product. Our crib mattress fits into the platform frame where it sits down a little. Meaning there's a lip on the frame, so it isn't flat across. Using this product now prevents the mattress from fitting all the way down onto the platform. This was not that much of a problem though, for me. The rail does not leave a lot of room to get in and out if you put it in the center, so I moved it closer to the head to give my daughter more space to scoot out the bottom. I think it's an adequate product if you have a convertible crib from a manufacturer that does not sell crib rails. (Mine is a Delta Jasmine).

We have a Graco convertible crib that does not have a toddler bed rail attachment that either came with the crib or is available to purchase. I read some reviews before purchasing this rail and found that the standard rails are meant to fit between a mattress and a box spring. Since a crib doesn't have a box spring a standard rail doesn't work well. This rail works perfectly. It's easy to set up right out of the box. There are straps that adjust to the width of your crib so it's snug and the metal part that fits under the mattress doesn't angle the mattress. The mesh is taut and keeps my daughter from falling out. I've seen her sleeping against it and it holds up with no problem. It's also small enough so she can get in and out of bed on her own.

Perfect, but make sure you raise the mattress up 1 level,

Our son is 2 1/2 and it was time to convert his crib into a toddler bed. However, the crib manufacturer, Baby Cache is temporarily not selling the toddler bed rails for our crib. Babies r us sold a wooden one, but it was $80 - YIKES!!! The wood didn't even match our crib either!!! I came to Amazon and found this. When we received the toddler bed rail, it was very easy to set up. My son can now get in an out of his "big boy bed" all by himself, and we don't have to worry about him falling out.
One thing is important - you must raise the bed up 1 notch or this will not work! As long as you raise the bed up 1 level, it works perfect. I read a previous comment about that and was thankful I did!

It looks like there is a new design for installation of this product- a metal circle and 1 strap to tighten. No fastener breakage upon install and strap seems very sturdy when tightening. My 2 year old daughter used it and did not fall out of her crib (Delta Hampton).

I have a Graco Lauren Convertible Crib for my 19 mon. old daughter. This bed rail did fit her day bed very well, it was easy to install & it only took about 10 mins. to do so(No tools needed, came already put together) I did like the height adjuster option for a better fit on the mattress . I did take the advice of other reviews and moved the rail to the head of the bed, which gave my daughter room to get in & out of bed by herself. It is sturdy enough to keep her safe & in bed as she sleeps. I would highly recommend this product to others! Kidco Convertible Crib Bed Rail

Perfect for our crib,

I was really pleased with this bed rail. I'm glad I closely read the reviews of the standard twin bed rails to see that those are not compatible with a convertible crib. We have a modern looking convertible crib, with two solid ends and a platform base for the mattress to rest on. Since the crib doesn't have that springy thing under the mattress, I was worried this wouldn't work, but it is great. As another review said, we moved the rail all the way up to one end, because my 2.5 year old sleeps on a pillow, and stays in pretty much the same spot all night, so it was best to have the whole upper 3/4 of the crib protected. We also purchased a sun/moon nightlight in conjunction with the 'big boy' bed transition, so now he waits for the sun to illuminate, and then knows it is time to climb out of bed. The mesh is very taught, and it is all put together right out of the box too. Nothing to assemble - very easy to install. Perfect rail for a convertible crib and I would recommend it to anyone.
Update 9/27/2011: This has held up perfectly, as good as the day we got it, and it is now used on the twin bed. It is a perfect length too; it doesn't need to take up the whole side of the bed like some other rails, just enough so he won't roll out. There is plenty of room for him to climb in and out (and me too).

We have a Jardin crib (not a recalled model) and this worked well. I wasn't willing to spend another $100 for a bed rail, so this one was a good balance of quality and price.

Perfect Bed Rail For My Toddler!,

My daughter is just over a year and a half old, but is very tall for her age and attempted to climb out her crib. The next day we converted her crib to a toddler bed and set out to find a rail. My husband and I, as well as my parents, split up all day trying to find a toddler bed rail that would work with a convertible crib. We ended up purchasing and returning three different bed rails. What I found is that most toddler bed rails are made specifically for twin sized beds and up! It was very frustrating!
I was, however, ecstatic when I came across the Kidco Convertible Crib Bed Rail and was anxious to receive it! I installed it on my daughter's bed immediately after package arrived and it is indeed perfect! There is very little assembly required, it's sturdy and most importantly, it fits!! Also, I love how it leaves just the right amount of room for her to get on and off the bed. I HIGHLY recommend this item for any little one using a convertible toddler bed!

This rail really came to the rescue!,

My son became skilled at climbing out of his crib and I found myself in need of a toddler bed rail. When trying to figure out how to convert his crib (a Graco convertible), I discovered two things. First, it didnt come with a conversion kit. And second, they didnt sell one for it either. After discovering that the regular bed rails were not compatible with a convertible crib and also how expensive some of the other rails are, I came here and stumbled upon this delightful piece of hardware. It took only minutes to install, and was pretty much put together right out of the package!! After reading a few reviews about the plastic clips breaking I took it upon myself to attach the straps right to the bed frame, rather than to the plastic piece which held onto the frame. It worked out perfectly! Its very secure and will barely budge. Im very confident that my son is safe with this rail. Like some other reviewers, I also had to install mine closer to one side of the crib rather than centered as it left very little room for my son to get in and out of. This rail really came to the rescue in my time of need, and Im so pleased with my purchase! I would recommend this to anyone!

We bought this for my son about 2-3 weeks ago. Husband attached it to the convertible toddler bed. We lifted the whole mattress off to do a check on it one night (as we do with other child safety things we've bought)recently before putting baby to bed and the plastic piece that secures the rail to the bed had broken off completely. We have no idea when this happened as the rail was obviously still in place being held by the mattress. This is a very cheap piece of saftey equipment and to be quite honest a dangerous hazard to little ones if this plastic piece can be broken so easily with pressure or a little rough handling. My guess is that my son probably messed with the rail itself a little at one point of another during the night and the pressure from being pushed out was too much for that piece of plastic-Ridiculous. We are very dissappointed since we now have to be without a rail until we find another better made one.
I rarely leave reviews on things but I found the need to do so as this could be extremely dangerous! |
