We like natural light and raise the mini-blinds on our windows when we don't need to block out the heat of the summer sun. The cords for the blinds for the taller windows and the sliding patio doors puddle on the floor unless you either cleat them, which takes a bit of effort, or use these cord winders. They don't last forever--eventually the spring wears out, and they won't wind all the cords of a large window's blind, but they are the best thing I've found in ten years of looking.

best product out there for long blinds,

Our one-year olds are effectively foiled by these. For really long blinds (from really tall windows) they are less work and a ton quicker than the manual wind-around-the-plastic-piece method and I didn't have to drill into woodwork or walls. Our blinds were too long to work with the other kind of cord winder used to just permantly take up slack. Yes, they aren't the sturdiest things around. I think they'll probably last us only 1-3 years (with repairs) before completely dying. Yes, you can repair them yourself...assuming some mechanical ability and 2 very patient spare hours of time to rewind the spring. Worth it only to us where time comes easier than money ;) Also, the more cord you try to wind the less well they work. And for goodness sake read the directions and don't just pull the cute little plastic pin before attaching it to something (thus un-winding the spring and making it a blindtoggle instead of a blindwinder) And YES, I'd still buy these again because they still wind all of my blinds in less than 30 seconds in the morning and keep the cords safe from the kids. Worth it for me.

Break too easily,

Great concept, but too fragile. I've had multiple of these break after just four or five retractions. I'm going to stick to a simpler solution going forward.

Best Safety Item We Bought!,

These cord covers work like a tape measure. You don't have to make any permanent changes, cut your cards or make any hard installs causing damage to your house. It easily attaches to your existing cords and rolls them all up inside. We've had these for almost a year and they have worked great.

This is exactly what I was looking for. It allows me to quickly wind up the cords of my window blinds and although the instructions say to trim the cord, I didn't need to.

These Blind Winders work wonderfully even on our bamboo blinds which have really thick cords. I would recommend these to anyone!

They work and you don't need to drill,

Initially, I thought I would have to cut the cord on my blinds. However, we have been able to just use them as is. They work and easily store the cord away from little hands. Better than our previous method of hanging the cord up on the blinds. They are probably not super sturdy, but they are fine for the purpose.

These work okay until they break. The plastic piece that you attach the strings to breaks off easily. Also, there needs to be more room for the cord to retract. We've got tall windows and I'm rather short, so after cutting the strings as short as I could still reach them when blinds are closed, they bunched up inside the winder when I pulled the blinds up. We've had several break and honestly, they are just way too expensive for a piece of plastic with springs in it. You could probably modify an old tape measure for less money and have a better product for much less. Unfortunately, they are the only retractable winders I can find and that's a necessary feature.

These broke in less than a year and it's impossible to put them back on if they fall off. Do NOT recommend.

If you have more than two blind cords that are a decent length this thing will choke. They should have made the housing larger or at least sell larger units. Also we had one of these malfunction, had to take it apart but didn't go back together well. If you have a set of blinds on a window that has a somewhat small cord length and no more than two or three control cords it may be sufficient. Otherwise buy a cleat.
