4.0 out of 5 stars Child safety lock.
I have this on the cabinets in my kitchen, on the ones that are on the bottom. They work pretty well, but after awhile my little guy figured out how to just push it down so that it opens up. I wouldn't recommend if you're trying to child proof from toddlers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, just not helpful for me
These work exactly as advertised; however, they allow the door to open enough that my 9 month old can get his fingers pinched in the drawer or door. And he does pinch his fingers all the time! I switched to the magnetic style lock so that he can't get the door open at all. Would work better maybe for older children who are less likely to slam little fingers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps Cat's out of Cupboards!, December 13, 2010

After looking at a few options I decided to install these to keep our cat from pulling things out of the cupboard when we're not home. We realized we needed something when he got into the snack cupboard and shook a bag of sunflower seeds ALL OVER THE HOUSE, including all the bedrooms. After laughing and vaccuming it up I got these locks, installed them about a year ago and have had no more incidents since. Works Perfectly!

I did alot of research for locks and this lock works well. We are in a rental unit at the moment so I was looking for something that wasn't too permanent and these locks fit the bill. My daughter, 13 months will try and open a cabinet and when she realizes that the door will not open then she will give up and crawl away. She can look inside partly which I do not mind because it is just enough to appease her and not get frustrated.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but not for me, January 26, 2009

I tried some cheaper versions from Kids Are Us that broke upon installation. These were the best made of all the ones I checked out. They are just about 3/4" too short for my new drawers. My drawers are 3/4" boxes with an additional 3/4" drawer front, typical of many ready made cabinets. Lock is too short to release it with my finger. If you don't have this type of drawer, however, these are the best made locks.

I'll be honest-- they take some time installing but after doing so you will never have a problem if you did it correctly. I installed them all over our house one morning (yes it took me all morning--im not a handyman) when my 1st child was born. Now she's 5 and we have a 2yr old as well and we have yet to see anyone of them or their friends open a cabinet door. They are very reasonable in price for the actual product-- and the the product has yet to let us down. If you own a cordless drill and need your cabinets kid-proofed -- buy these.

With a highly mobile grandson this did the trick; little hands can no longer go exploring in drawers. Initially it is a little annoying have to unlatch it everytiime you needs to get in a drawer but it quickly becomes second nature to do so.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for pets, January 5, 2012

Our dog found out that he can open our cabinets and find goodies inside, so we were forced to install child locks. These work great on drawers, cabinet doors, and under-cabinet slide out trash bins. The latch and strike plate screw in, which seems much more secure than the stick-on ones, but you'll need a screwdriver and probably a drill for pilot holes.

The main drawback is that the child locks cannot be temporarily disabled. It would be nice if we could remove the latch without unscrewing it so we could open and close drawers when cooking.

The other problem is that installing these on drawers is tricky. You have to remove the drawer to install the strike plate (or there would be no room for a screwdriver), but when you try to reinsert the drawer the strike plate is in the way. I was able to force it in, but the slide track had to bend a bit more than I would have liked. However, our dog would pull the entire drawer out and dump it on the floor, and the strike plate prevents that.

Of course, not the dog tries to detach the side panel from the cabinet...
