Finally a gate that works!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kidco Wood Center Gateway Beechwood (Baby Product)
I had purchased several gates before this one and had to return them all because none of them would stand securely between our wall (which is not perfectly even) and the staircase post. Though this gate ... definitely "cost" more ... than the others...it works!...and there are some things (like my son's safety and our peace of mind) that you just can't attach a dollar figure to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Features that I most like: 1. The gate is pressure mounted (no need to drill holes in our wall or staircase post). 2. It is secure (even with constant opening and closing, as well as my son's persistent pulling, the gate stays securely mounted). 3. The gate has this additional safety feature that if you forget to lock the gate after opening, it semi-locks, which does not allow the gate door to swing open. 4. easy to mount and use!

WONDERFUL product,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kidco Wood Center Gateway Beechwood (Baby Product)
We initially bought this gate in January when we were put our house on the market (to sell) and wanted to keep our 3 dogs off the carpeted areas. While somewhat pricey compared to the other gates on the market, we liked that it was both pressure mounted and could be adapted to work on the spindles on stairs (haven't tried that yet). For about $... the extensions are also pricey, but again, the pressure mounting (which doesn't move if installed properly) is great. It's easy to use once you get the hang of it (a couple of tries) but can be a little tricky in poor lighting getting the bracket that keeps it secure in place on the bottom. The fact that is swings either way is nice as well. Once it's locked down, our 17 month old can't get it open, but if it's not secured properly, she is able move the gate without lifting it and the inner workings of the hinge mechanism seem to be wearing down somewhat. Other than those minor issues, it's a great product. She tries to climb, but can't at this point. We're getting ready to purchase another one for our new house so we have one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom - both for our daughter and the dogs! :)

Dimensions,

I checked on the Kido website (kidcoinc.com) and this model fits openings 28" to 36" wide. An optional extension kit exists which measures 5.5" (available on this webiste). The gate plus extensions can be combined for a maximum length of 47".

No more climbing over a gate!,

Right now, our babies are infants, so the gate isn't even for them. We have two dogs, one of which LOVES to go into the bathroom to eat the cat food. Previously, we were using one of those gates that you raise and lower the arm. With the babies, you either had to try to maneuver with one hand OR, climb over the gate. This gate, not only allows you to open and close the 'door' easily, it is pressure mounted so that you don't have to drill holes in the wall which was a BIG PLUS for us. Definitely in the top ten list of gifts we received!

Great product but beware of the wood!,

This is an extremely sturdy, well-made gate. We purchased the Beechwood gate to keep our dog in the kitchen when we leave our home. It goes well with our decor and fits perfectly in our doorway (with an extension). However, if your dog is a chewer DO NOT get the Beechwood gate. Go with the metal ones. Our dog chewed right through the wood in the gate and it's now useless (not to mention over $100 down the drain). Otherwise, we were very impressed with the quality and look of this gate.

OK-but it's a tripper,
This review is from: Kidco Wood Center Gateway Beechwood (Baby Product)
Got this gate for between the living room and kitchen. Liked the idea to pass thru and wanted a nice looking one that was pressure mounted. Well, the drywall is still messed up from the pressure points. Too loose and it can be pushed over. I can't count how many times we have tripped over this thing. This is coming down soon, being replaced by a gate mounted with hardware and without the bottom rail.

Going on 5 years with these - the best gates available,

We have four of these gates and they have been used daily for almost five years. They are as solid as the day they were purchased.
We went with the Kidco wood gate initially because we have an old house that we spent lots of time restoring and felt that the wood look went with the house better than new "space age" looking gates. Five years later, we are happy that we made the decision because the gates look great in the house, and they have stood up to all of the use and abuse our three kids could dish out. Other reviewers have noted that there is a bar that goes along the base of the gate that is easy to trip over. It takes a couple of days to get used to this, but hasn't been a problem for us. Also, another reviewer questioned the longevity of the gates due to the constant opening and closing of the handles. Honestly, these gates have held up to constant use and we haven't had ANY problems with them whatsoever. The best part about them is that they truly child proof. We have "Houdini" nephews that haven't been able to get through them in all this time.

ok for now, but...,

i wouldn't be surprised if the parts of the plastic handle didn't stand up to regular use, since opening the gate involves a 3-step sequence. plus, i find you need to use 2 hands to open it. the HANDS FREE GATE IS SO MUCH BETTER than this, but we had to get this one because our entryway was too narrow for the hands free gate.

We have three of these gates (had one for several months then purchase an additional two). They are sturdy, easy to install and adjust, and easy to operate. The plastic handle seems a little flimsy but has held up well and we've had no issues with any of them. It's a little on the expensive side but we've been happy with them--large enough opening that you don't feel crowded, easy to open and close, solidly built, easy to install and adjust.
