These are easy to install (So are the rest though) and promise a battery free lifetime. I have 10 of these in my house and have had to replace all but 1 - and they were just installed < 4years ago.

I installed 30 of these in bedrooms of apartments that I manage. I was concerned that the manufacturing date was more than a year earlier, but found that the battery was not "activated" until the first time the detector was inserted in the base. Two of the detectors failed in the first 6 months. I contacted Kidde and received replacements promptly. They had no explanation for my experience. I disassembled one of the detectors and was not impressed by the batteries I found.
I'm at this site now because another detector has malfunctioned. The device was performing its "end of life" chirp - when just less than 2 years old. I'm going to get some spares to handle this and future failures since not having to change the base has some value to me.
There is no information on the front of the detector that identifies that there is no battery to replace. I printed a transparent "Sealed - No Battery to Replace" label and afixed it to the front.

This smoke detector was quite easy to install with two screws. There are no batteries to replace and, when it works, it is loud and effective.

One note: because there are no batteries, you can't take them out if you have smoke ... say you burned something in the kitchen ... so you'll have to deal with the alarm ... or just don't burn your food when you cook :)

Worth the premium price - installs easily and low maintenance.

An easy installation and setup. 10 year battery is a great plus for this one if you have high ceilings. The lesser expensive ones are a pain to get to on high ceilings just to simply change out batteries. I've also had AC wired alarms that can be problematic going off/on in power outages even with the battery backups.

Question: What made you buy the Kidde 0910 10-Year Sealed Lithium Battery-Operated Smoke Alarm with Memory and Smart Hush?

Answer: I wanted to add smoke alarms to the bedrooms in my house, but didn't want to have to be climbing up and down a ladder to randomly change batteries in the alarms when they started chirping. A 10 year battery?! Even if it lasts half that time I'll be thrilled!

Easy to install with a cordless drill, this smoke alarm is activated when you put the unit to the bracket attached to the wall or ceiling. The only negative I can find about this set-up is that IF you disengage the smoke detector from the bracket, the unit is deactivated and you have an expensive hockey puck. * DON"T unscrew it from the bracket once it's installed!* If the smoke detector goes off (when you are cooking for example...) push the Smart Hush button instead of tearing it down with a broom handle as I've been prone to do with other types of smoke detectors. The reason I give it 4-stars versus 5 has to do with this potential for 'Oh no!' if you forget and unscrew it instead of using the hush.

The alarm ships with a comprehensive user's guide, a packet with two screws and mounts, the mounting bracket and smoke detector unit. Easy installation, low maintenance and a fair price. This one's worth the money!

unit lasted less than 18 months. did not give low battery warning before it died. since you can't replace the batteries in this battery operated unit, i am assuming this product is made by apple.

This smoke alarm was very easy to install. It went off a couple times while I was cooking, so I know it works! The hush button is great for when that happens. And best of all, no more low battery beeps and buying batteries. So far, so good!

This supposed "10-year" product stopped working less than 4 years after the MANUFACTURE date. That's fraud.

When it stops working, it "churps" to let you know. To stop the churping before disposing of it, you need to "deactivate" it. When I followed the deactivation directions, the deactivation switch broke, leaving me with a continuously chirping sealed device. I eventually had to silence it by poking scissors through the vent holes on the sides and cutting random wires until it was silenced. That's dangerous.

DO NOT BUY THIS

I'm not impressed. During a recent renovation these were installed all over the house. This was about 2 months ago. One of them just did its end-of-life chirp thing. No way to replace batteries - just disable and throw away. What if they all start dying now?

Think of not having to change the battery all of the time. Plus, The hush button is great when you are baking
