The Kidde Nighthawk Premium Plus Carbon Monoxide Detector offers you and your family protection from the silent killer, CO and gas leaks. The detector features a continuous digital display of all CO levels from 0-999 PPM so that you are always aware. With the updated digital reading feature, a reading is taken every 2.5 minutes so that you can see if the levels change. In the event of a dangerously high CO level, the detector sends out a loud danger signal so that you can react quickly. The detector has a convenient test reset button so that you can test the unit's electronics and silence the sounder alarm whenever necessary and a peak level memory button that recalls the highest danger level. The detector is battery operated so it provides protection even during power outages. I just received this from Amazon, at a sale price, so I thought I would clarify what Amazon is selling here. This is the Kidde model number number KN-COPP-B, which is shared by several "assembly numbers" of which this is 900-0089. I think that is what's in the fine print in the photo of the back, but it's hard to read. There are slight cosmetic differences between the pictures and what I received, but less than with other Amazon listings of COPP-B with other assembly numbers.

The important thing is that, although this assembly number has been in use for many years (Google it), the guts of this are the newer technology with the seven year lifespan and death chirp alert, according to what's printed on the case. The case has a handy little summary of what to do for various ranges of alarm readings, so you don't call 911 for minor things, and since you'll never find the manual, which you can read at [...] , albeit for another COPP-B assembly number.

My past carbon monoxide detectors had to be plugged into the wall. And, since CO detectors are best placed high off the floor, this necessitated both close proximity to an outlet and exposure of a wire leading up the wall to the detector. Not a pretty picture.

The placement of the basement CO detector was another problem. There is only one electrical outlet available and the sump pump is plugged into it. Although that left one outlet space free, the design of many CO detectors, requires plugging the entire detector into the space, so the entire outlet plate is blocked. That simply wasn't an option, and since the furnace is located in the basement, it is a location I felt necessitated a detector.

I appreciate being able to precisely place this monitor between my gas fireplace and gas stove without concern for electrical outlet locations. Additionally, I can place it so it isn't obvious. And, the lack of an outlet in the basement became a non-issue with this detector. After reading hundreds of reviews (yes, I did) this model seemed to have the best reliability with the least false alarms, which is a pretty serious consideration given an alarm may require a visit from the fire department. I will update this review if I encounter any problems or phantom alarms, but if I haven't added anything, I am still delighted.

We have had this CO Alarm in our home for years. I am happy to say we have not had it go off.
My neighbor is a fire fighter and told me the digital display is a must and the only thing he has in his home. This is easy to mount and the display is easy to read.
Good CO Alarm.
