No need to worry about faulty batteries with the Kidde KN-COPF-i Silhouette Low-Profile Carbon Monoxide Alarm. This no-maintenance alarm contains a rechargeable battery that runs off central electricity and lasts the lifetime of the unit. Dependable and easy to install, this alarm saves on labor and material costs over its lifetime. And because this alarm is interconnect-able, builders and do-it-yourself homeowners will quickly discover this is a must-have for remodels and new construction.

Rechargeable Batteries Save Money, Time, and Labor
The Kidde Silhouette Low-Profile Carbon Monoxide Alarm features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery sealed inside the unit that recharges automatically via central electricity. If there is a power outage, the battery backup feature will allow continuous monitoring of carbon monoxide (CO) levels--something AC-only units can't offer--and it will recharge when electricity is restored.

Over the span of the alarm's life, this no-fuss unit saves homeowners money, time, and labor on battery changes. For builders, landlords, hoteliers, and apartment managers, this innovative feature cuts down on callbacks, material, and labor costs.

The battery is designed to last the lifetime of the alarm, approximately seven years, which is 40 percent longer than standard CO alarms. Once the alarm has reached the end of its life, it will chirp every 30 seconds, letting you know it's time for a replacement.

An interconnected system provides more warnings in more places in case of fire or carbon monoxide in your home.
Easy-to-Install Alarm Features a Discreet Profile
The Silhouette alarm's faceplate protrudes less than an inch from the wall, making it the most discreet alarm on the market. The encasement containing the sensor and components fits in most standard 2-gang, metal or plastic electrical boxes.

Builders and do-it-yourselfers will appreciate the pre-stripped wiring harness, which eliminates the need for a stripper tool, and the tinned strands that increase conductivity and wire nut grip. Once the CO alarm is installed, simply make sure the unit receives AC power for 24 hours to fully charge the battery. A green LED indicates power is being delivered to the alarm, an amber LED light indicates the unit is initiating an alarm, and a red LED light indicates the unit is in alarm mode.

Interconnect-able System Offers Early Hazard Detection
This alarm uses advanced electrochemical CO sensing technology, providing reliable protection against the dangers of carbon monoxide. In addition, the unit is designed to interconnect with other Kidde CO and smoke alarms, providing you with the earliest warning of a CO or fire hazard. The Digital Display feature allows for easy viewing of carbon monoxide levels from 30 - 999 parts per million. Each alarm in the interconnect-able system is equipped with an initiating alarm memory. In the event of an emergency, the alarm that first detects a hazard will feature a flashing LED, allowing emergency personnel to locate the source quickly and efficiently. All other alarms in the system will sound, however, their LEDs will not flash. This feature is especially useful in apartment buildings, condominiums, hotels, and dormitories.

Meets Industry Standards
Like all Kidde alarms, the Silhouette Low-Profile alarm has been approved by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), an independent third-party testing laboratory that sets the industry standard for alarms.

Customer Reviews

It looks a lot better than the one it replaced and it fits flush against the ceiling unlike the old one.

It would be great if they had a feature where you could adjust the lighting levels, or better yet the display only came on when CO was detected?

The CO detector was installed several weeks ago, so it is really too early to know how it truly performs. I do like the small size and the low profile. It looks good compared to other CO detectors.

As recommended, the detector was installed in the hallway just outside our bedroom. The display is incredibly bright. It is easy to read in the daytime and is probably sunlight readable. However, since we leave the bedroom door open, it lights up the entire bedroom at night. Now I wish I had installed it at the far end of the hallway just to reduce the light level.

I did the test the CO detector and cross-test with a Silhouette smoke detector. The CO detector does alarm for fire and displays the word FIRE. The Silhouette smoke detector did not report for the CO test. It did not seem that the CO detector came out of test mode cleanly. It's not clear if I didn't do the test correctly or if the detector was stuck in a weird state. Later (and also after a power failure) everything seems normal.

This is a nice alarm which ties into my other wired Kidde CO and smoke detectors. I don't have a problem with falsing, and it looks nice on the wall. My only real complaint is that the LED display is RIDICULOUSLY bright. How bright? Think night-light. It's in my basement, and I can walk around down there without any lights on. Don't mount it in your bedroom unless you plan on putting a piece of electrical tape over the display!

If you are thinking of buying this, keep in mind it mounts in a two-gang electrical box in your wall, so you'll probably have to do some drywall cutting.

Not much to say...just a very well made and practical item. Also very easy to install. The product only protrudes about a half inch from the wall. Easy read-out and display.

Like other reviewers, I can state that this is a truly great device. The install process was easy (assuming you have a 2-gang box in your ceiling), the thin profile is a huge upgrade over builder grade models, and the built-in rechargeable battery is the sort of thing that we all deserve in 2013. But the screen brightness on this thing is really nuts. In my particular application (in a downstairs entry hallway) it isn't much of a problem, and honestly could be seen as a feature (an always on night light). But for those who aren't interested in having their area lit by a bright-blue search light of a Carbon Monoxide Alarm, you'll need to plan to difuse/block the light, or will want to look elsewhere.

If the light did bother me, I would have simply covered it with some dark translucent film. But really, it is egregiousness enough that Kidde should really revise the product.

I like the carbon monoxide detector a lot. It looks a lot better than the one it replaced and it fits flush against the ceiling unlike the old one. The blue light is a bit on the bright side. I don't think I'd want it in my bedroom.

I replaced some 10 year old hard wired detectors with these. Dimensionally these were similar to the one I replaced. The difference was the old detectors protruded from the wall (and we're bumped into often) and these are almost flush with the wall. I had to change the box in the wall from each single gang to a double. I took about 15 mins each start to finish ( including clean up). They do emit a blue light which really doubles as a night light in both hallways.

I installed two of these along with 6 of the matching smoke detectors but one of the C02 detector batteries won't charge. Since the battery is completely sealed and there is no off switch you cannot charge these units without getting a low-battery beep every single minute. After 2000 beeps it's becoming clear that the units don't recharge reliably. I wonder how many people will also experience this after their first power outage.
