Never change a battery again. The Kidde Sealed Lithium Smoke Alarm saves you up to $60 and eliminates battery replacement hassles.
Product Highlights
  • No battery replacement for the lifetime of the alarm
  • Powered by a tamper-free sealed lithium power supply
  • Self-Activation automatically activates unit when attached to bracket
  • Smart Hush silences alarm in non emergencies
  • Money-saving alarm is great for homes and rental properties
This alarm uses ionization sensing technology for the smoke alarm. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.

Great for Homes and Rental Properties
This tamper-free alarm prevents battery or alarm removal, eliminating worry about unauthorized battery removal or unauthorized deactivation of the alarm. Also, this alarm is a good choice for rental properties and high-density dwellings, as its sealed tamper-free design prevents theft, while also reducing labor and material costs. This helps to ensure that the property and inhabitants are protected by a fully operational alarm.

Easy to Install with Self Activation
The innovative automatic activation of this alarm is unlike any other smoke alarm design. The alarm will automatically activate when it is attached to the mounting bracket; there are no pull tabs and no switches--everything is automatic. At the end of the alarm life, the unit will chirp, indicating the alarm is in need of replacement. You can use a simple tool, such as a screwdriver, to deactivate the unit, stopping the low-battery chirp and making the alarm safe for disposal. The sealed-in board-mounted batteries will power the unit for its complete 10-year life. No replacement batteries will ever be needed.

Trademarked Hush Feature for Convenience
By pressing the smoke alarm's Hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners. This alarm's Smart Hush feature has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the alarm circuit for up to eight minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm.

The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the Test/Hush button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. The red LED will illuminate for 1.5 seconds every eight seconds while in Hush mode. This indicates that the alarm is in a temporarily desensitized condition.

Additionally, the smoke alarm will automatically reset after approximately eight minutes and sound the alarm if particles of combustion are still present. Smart Hush can be used repeatedly until the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm. Pushing the Test/Hush button on the alarm will end the hush period.

Power Outage Protection, Indicator LED, and Test Feature
A 10-year sealed lithium battery powers this alarm, providing continuous protection against smoke and fire hazards even during power outages. Because a smoke alarm only helps protect you if it's working, this unit features a red LED that flashes every 40 to 45 seconds to indicate that it is operating correctly. For additional peace of mind, the alarm contains a Test/Reset button that enables you to periodically test its circuitry and horn.

The unit measures just 5.6 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches in depth, and it features a neutral, white finish.

This smoke alarm is UL listed, so you can be confident of its quality, and it is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

These are easy to install (So are the rest though) and promise a battery free lifetime. I have 10 of these in my house and have had to replace all but 1 - and they were just installed < 4years ago.

I installed 30 of these in bedrooms of apartments that I manage. I was concerned that the manufacturing date was more than a year earlier, but found that the battery was not "activated" until the first time the detector was inserted in the base. Two of the detectors failed in the first 6 months. I contacted Kidde and received replacements promptly. They had no explanation for my experience. I disassembled one of the detectors and was not impressed by the batteries I found.
I'm at this site now because another detector has malfunctioned. The device was performing its "end of life" chirp - when just less than 2 years old. I'm going to get some spares to handle this and future failures since not having to change the base has some value to me.
There is no information on the front of the detector that identifies that there is no battery to replace. I printed a transparent "Sealed - No Battery to Replace" label and afixed it to the front.

Mine died after 6 months! Some "10-year battery." I won't be buying another of these! Time for another brand. Kidde used to be good.

I've experienced four of these models, two in my previous apartment and two in my current one. They all have the same problem: they are entirely too sensitive. They go off every time the oven in used. They even go off when I make toast. Smoke or even the smell of burning doesn't need to be present for this alarm to go off. The building super installed these alarms in all the units, so I don't have this alarm by choice. Because of the rental agreement, I can not cover up these alarms or disturb them in any way. If they catch me covering them with bags I could receive a fine.

According to the documentation on the back of the unit, the unit will be silenced for 8 minutes after pushing the "PUSH TO HUSH" button and the LED will flash every 10 seconds instead of the usual 45 second interval. This is false. It has been false for each of the four of these alarms I have dealt with. I've had them go off a matter of seconds after pushing the hush button. God help you if you are short and have this alarm installed out of reach. You will need to hit the hush button at least every couple of minutes when cooking. I've even had to take a position in the hallway, halfway between the alarms, so I can get to whichever one starts beeping first, while my girlfriend deals with the food.

unit lasted less than 18 months. did not give low battery warning before it died. since you can't replace the batteries in this battery operated unit, i am assuming this product is made by apple.

This supposed "10-year" product stopped working less than 4 years after the MANUFACTURE date. That's fraud.

When it stops working, it "churps" to let you know. To stop the churping before disposing of it, you need to "deactivate" it. When I followed the deactivation directions, the deactivation switch broke, leaving me with a continuously chirping sealed device. I eventually had to silence it by poking scissors through the vent holes on the sides and cutting random wires until it was silenced. That's dangerous.

DO NOT BUY THIS

I had great hopes for this completely sealed Kidde smoke alarm that supposedly would go 10 years without needing new batteries. Mine lasted about 10 months and it was never in a real alarm condition, only monthly testing. So much for hoping that 9V battery powered detectors were a thing of the past.

I HATE this unit. The one in my bedroom goes off whenever I use my stove in the kitchen. EVERY night. I'm through with it - it's useless.

Anyone can make an alarm that will never miss a fire: just create a unit that goes off every five minutes, regardless of whether smoke is present or not. It seems like that's what this unit does. If it constantly goes off when there is no fire, can I trust it to go off when there is? Having to silence it every day erodes my faith in it, and means I don't take the alarms seriously.

I do not recommend anyone buy this unit.
