Protect your Family from Home Fires
Every year, 70 percent of all home fire deaths occur in homes with no alarms or no working alarms, while nearly one quarter of smoke alarms in reported fires are not working. Installing an alarm like the i9070 is an affordable, easy way to help protect your family from the devastating results of a fire. Alarms give you more time to make an escape, especially if you're asleep when the fire starts. Ideally, they should be installed on every level of your home and outside all bedrooms.

The i9070 is specially designed to help warn families of the dangers of smoke and fire hazards while providing a range of user-friendly features that make it easy to keep a maintained smoke alarm with working battery.

Ionization Sensor Technology
For reliable performance and early detection, the i9070 features an ionization sensor. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with fast flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible fire particles (associated with slow smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fires that can occur within the home.

Simple and Convenient Battery Changes with Front-Load Door
The i9070 has an easy-to-operate, front-load battery door that allows you to change the battery without having to remove the smoke alarm from the mounting bracket. This unique design will also not close if the battery is installed incorrectly, so you know with each and every change that the batteries are where they should be. For added convenience, a locking feature located on the back of the alarm lets you lock the battery door--a great option if theft or tampering is a concern.

Finally, a hush feature lets you silence nuisance alarms--ideal for alarms installed in the kitchen.

Compliancy and Warranty Information
The Kidde i9070 alarm is UL listed and is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

Evidently the sensor area on this detector gets dirty very easily, and once it is dusty/dirty it's starts to beep. You can clean it out with canned air, but it's still annoying how unprotected the sensor area is.

Not sure what model the first reviewer really had but Model i9070 is a battery powered detector and not a hard wired unit. I have several of these in areas with bugs (like screened porches) and have not had any false alarms. The majority of the house has hardwired detectors but for the areas that typically don't get detectors (like screened porches with hot tubs and attics) this is an excellent reasonably priced detector.

I purchased 2 of these for my Uncle's house from a third party seller (THE VALUE BAY) which was Fulfilled by Amazon. They use the same mounting ring as the hardwired units (Kidde PI2010) I purchased a few months ago for my own house; however, unlike mine, these units do not click into place or have the ability to lock into the mounting ring, they just sit there. I guess they will stay put, but it's stupid that they don't take advantage of the mounting ring's features. Also both detectors had a manufacture date of July 2008, which means they are now 3 years old. Hopefully they last 10 years from today.

Purchased 2 of these to replace older alarms that had gone bad. Happy with them so far, after using 1 for a year and 1 for a couple of months. This is a great unit to use near a kitchen. (I have to have an alarm in the kitchen because a bedroom is nearby and the housing codes in my area require it.) The hush feature works well if you can clear the smoke right away - it mutes the alarm for 10-15 minutes (never timed it). If you're like me and have an older kitchen where the smoke lingers, all you do is pop open the battery compartment, enjoy your (smoky) meal in peace, and then close the compartment later. Better than taking the alarm apart and procrastinating putting it back together, which is what I used to do!

I have a big house with multiple battery operated smoke alarms, and all different types have worn out over the years. Some don't work at all when you test them, or make quiet buzzing noises, and some start peeping even with fresh batteries or giving false alarms as they age. If it happens with these, I'll just replace them with the same model - seems like it's the cost of cheap battery alarms.

Already had one of these in house. Very easy to install, and very easy to change battery. Same model was $18 at Home Depot. Saved $10 by getting it on Amazon.

The design is great with the front loading battery and the hush button. The thing hung on the family room ceiling for two years, standing guard, silently. Then it began to beep, announcing the need for a new battery, which is promptly got. But it still beeped. I cleaned it out with canned compressed air, and it still beeped. Then I threw it away.
