Offbeat But Enjoyable,

Assassinating the President of the United States is difficult, but sadly as we know it is not impossible. Kidnapping the President -- now that does seem to be impossible. Charles Templeton is "The Kidnapping of the President" presents a just barely plausible scenario for just that.
In order to finance its operations a small Latin American revolutionary group decides to kidnap the President of the United States and demand ransom of $50 million. The kidnapping succeeds, but there's still the question of whether the US Government will abandon its policy of not dealing with terrorists and pay the ransom. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are preparing rescue plans. This is not an easy book to classify. It contains elements from many genres: action-thriller, suspense, police procedural, political intrigue, etc. I guess it's better just to say I enjoyed it. Some of the political scenes seemed just slightly off, and I wondered whether Charles Templeton, who I had never heard of before, might be British. In fact, Wikipedia tells me he is Canadian (very famous in the Great White North). |
